power at your end would technically affect your speed, limited benifit for risk though.

 

its kinda like a coversation, i dug far too much into the technical aspect of how all that works!

At the exchange end there is a coupling effect while at the customer end the modems are all different distances away.

The trial was in a limited area, this is chorus's stating they are going to may it network wide.

I'd hope that as part of this Chorus will move more good-average VDSL lines onto 17a to reduce crosstalk on 8b for marginal-bad lines. I also wonder if this means that they're going to enable vectoring as part of this.

 

I've yet to find one of the 40% VDSL upload speed increase lines.

I have been doing a fair bit of research in the meantime internally..

 

For those looking for more upstream speeds, 17a appears to be a big pushed factor.

 

 

 

Not everyone is seeing the reported 40% gains at all, however some up upwards of 500% speed increases..

 

The hard thing about profiling is, at the volume i'm looking at, thats some serious data to go over and there is no telling who has a master filter installed etc without manually checking all that out for apples to apples comparisons.

Interesting, i must be on one of the other trials. The line you did a comparison on a mirror image of mine (Same Attenuation, same SNR, Same line card, same modem) however I am getting 20mBit more on the downstream with 8b

Wow hio - am I reading this right? A line that was originally syncing at ~33/8 (presumably on 8b) ended up at 70/30 (presumably 17a)?

 

Grain of salt well and truly accepted, but that seems like an incredible result. Is that due solely to the pending DLM changes, or does that take into account the bandplan changes of last year as well?

Yes you are reading that right..

 

 

 

This was not a best line of the bunch, it was just one that was very clear on the movements of DLM with the changes..

 

alot of it comes down to what many of us have been saying, 17a is underused in nz..

I'm at 45/8 on 8b and would kill for even something like a 10/5 bump. Will be watching my modem stats with great interest.
