DonGould: The speed of light in fibre doesn't change

I'm sure I saw something about newer hollow cables offering a performance boost over solid glass ones; light apparently travels faster in a vacuum than through glass.

no no, the fastest of cables is when you stick glass fibres in the coax ;)

yitz: I suppose this cable will carry 100 Gbps Ethernet how much faster is that than 10 Gbps of the existing cable? I suspect only a fraction faster in terms of latency as propagation delay will still make up the bulk of the latency.

You can get 100gb on SCCN if you have the pockets to pay for it.
But if you're wanting 100gb then really you want 200gb in case there is a fibre cut or need to make changes. 100gb optics ain't cheap.
