Any quote like that would be organised via your RSP.

If there is fibre along the road then likely is main trunk (ex SH1 north from Orewa) so probably zero chance of connecting to it.  Previous owner said there was a fibre main trunk along the road, tech#2 said probably.  No rural fibre.

broadbandmap.nz shows only Spark & Vodafone wireless at our location.  Not aware of any non-3/4G wireless provider in this area.

broadbandmap.nz says VDSL available at 15-60 down and 5-18 up (we are comfortably within the zone).  Our MAX rate from the line stats is 27 but only averaging 18.5 (still, even that is within the indicated limits).  But up is only 0.75, well below the indicated range.  Abysmal.  Tech's say the line is 'clean', or words to that effect.  Down line attenuation (19.9) does not seem that bad.

How to get rid of the (likely) bridge tap???   Given the situation, seems no reason not to cut the on-going wires to remove the bridge tap burden.

Who should I approach about that?  RSP?

==

Now over two days up time.  So far only 6 CRC errors on the down link and 0 on the up link.  I assume the 6 in 2 days is OK.

Interleave depth has not changed since first got back on two days ago; ie. still high (241 down / 64 up).

look at the map there: https://www.chorus.co.nz/our-network/rural-broadband/rural-fibre it will tell you if you can connect to it or not

highly doubt you will be able to get rid of the bridge tap. thats money chorus wont be willing to spend on the network considering there is not really a fault on your line. (a bridge tap is not a fault)

6 crc errors a minute is still considered to be ok :) so 6 in 2 days is awesome. i have 374 in 83 days (4.5 a day).

just leave it for a few weeks or even till the end of may till when the DDLM rollout is done and see if that helps things for you a little.

You're in luck. Green means you have Chorus RBI fibre outside your door. You can get UFB speeds, at UFB prices, once you connect to it. :)

You will need to pay a connection fee though. Depending on the location it may range from a thousand dollars to hundreds of thousands. It's worthwhile to find out how much exactly and see if it's still worth the effort to fix the VDSL.

Call your ISP and ask them to get a "NGA on application" estimate from Chorus for you.

As above, this is the next process.

Don't expect it to be cheap, but if your in the green then your good.

For me, i'm 2KM from the nearest RBI Fibre manhole (also happens to be the cabinet for me) i was given a price of $59,000 - Direct to the RSP, what the RSP chooses to pass on is another story, i'd expect larger than the chorus number however. (This price for 2KM of fibre run, i wouldn't say is unreasonable tbh..)

This isn't to scare you off the idea, absolutely roll for it... Just be aware they may come back with a large number - If its reasonable though (say a few K) I'd do it in a heartbeat

Great news, well depending on the $$$'s quoted.  Sounds like they are not shy about large numbers frown.  Possible to negotiate them down on the initial quote?

If the map is roughly accurate, there may be access to the fibre not far from our driveway entrance.  Via the route that make most sense it looks like ~280m of cable would be needed (<200m in a direct line but that is not a starter).  But ... would need to be underground most of the way and probably a road and deep storm water drain to cross so cost may get uncomfortably high.  Avoiding the drain (cross at our driveway) would increase the distance to ~400m.  Need to have a good look.  The drain would be more of a challenge in some areas than in others.

Do they come and discuss the cable route before quoting?

Are accurate coordinates available for locations where it is possible to access the fibre?

Unfortunately I doubt any of the ~4 neighbours near us would be interested in shelling out the necessary $'s to share the cost.

==

Is that map publicly available?

Link?

The Chorus RBI map I looked at has no RBI fibre anywhere near us (in fact, just tiny lengths of blue lines here and there); ie.

https://www.chorus.co.nz/our-network/rural-broadband/rural-fibre

Re approaching RSP.  What division - sales?

I cannot see anything about RBI fibre on the Vodafone website - just 3/4G wireless rural broadband.

Sales hopefully, although i suspect they won't know what your talking about..

RBI Fibre once installed comes under UFB.

The installation costs will be for the price of one install, splitting between 4 wouldn't play well.

if the fibre itself runs infront of your land though, sub 10K could be possible? its a guess at what chorus put forward.

if you fail to get traction with your RSP, then i'm sure options can be looked at elsewhere...

The map above is CCM, An internal mapping system of chorus's

..

The map above is CCM, An internal mapping system of chorus's

Hmm, well ...

1. The good:  Had no problem with Vodafone sales knowing what I was talking about.  Knew exactly what to do, but ...

2. The bad: CSR typed our address into the RBI fibre checker and it showed no RBI fibre for our address.  Which is what I get on the publicly available rural fibre checker https://www.chorus.co.nz/our-network/rural-broadband/rural-fibre.  The CSR said it was not possible for them to process the request because the checker showed RBI fibre as not available at our address.  The standard broadband checker does not show fibre available either - just wireless, ADSL and VDSL.

It seems Vodafone do not have access to the "CCM, .. internal mapping system of Chorus's".  Presumably just the same publicly available tool I used?

Strange that there is RBI fibre there and available to access but it does not show up in any of the online broadband checking tools. Only show up on an internal Chorus map.  Seems that this may make accessing the RBI fibre near impossible.

How to proceed from here?

i would doubt tare 1 call center staff would now what the CCM is. some vodafone staff would know what it is but not the ones you initially talk to on the phone.

call and ask for a "NGA on application" from chorus, if they dont know what you are talking about ask to be transferred to someone who does. if that still fails, go to another ISP

CCM is not handed out, it is requested for.

i'd say that agent actually knew nothing of what to do, they simply looked for the easy option.. available service.

What your asking for is a NGA application.

You can do the first part, if you email them they will give you a reference number to provide to your RSP.
