This is being majorly misreported as a "National" election policy,

Its not, its government policy, Its all over MBIE

There is a convention that Govt shouldn't announce major policy in the 3 months before an election, but I guess they don't believe it is "major" - although I'm pretty sure those who get the UFB extension will think it is :)

Which does what?

Recently my connection went from 70/30 to 50/20 I am unsure why, I imagine it's unrelated of course, but the tinkering hasn't improved my connections

Which does what?

Controls the noisefloor on the lines and vectors all of them to achieve the lowest amount of noise or interference, Means lower SNR too and more speeeeeeed!

Labour ICT spokeswoman Clare Curran said she doubted the UFB roll-out could be completed by 2022.

RBI2 was "largely a policy from 2014 dressed up to look up bigger than it is", she said.

Areas marked at Tourism New Coverage, I take it these are simply towers.

Any idea where we can locate expected completion plans for these (I'm looking at you Bethells beach tower which was originally cancelled due to tinfoil hats...)

I'm guessing the contracts with the operators will be well signed before any new government is sworn in, they would be "brave" to junk it

Hard to see a new government (if it happens) taking it back.

The press coverage makes it clear that it isn't "new" money but mostly recycled cash from UFB1 due to higher take up rates and faster network build than originally anticipated.

eg. We know that UFF have already paid back the "soft loan" they were given for UFB1.

Hopefully they'll take full advantage of the new planning changes to stick fibre on to their power poles.

We're on the list for UFB2+ but still a fair way out from the main village.

[Labour's finance spokesman Grant] Robertson said there was a high probability Labour would go ahead with the UFB programme, something it thought should have been moved on sooner.

However, he said it was inappropriate that within minutes of the UFB announcement being made it was being used as campaign material.

He said the Cabinet Manual advised against announcing government policies during a campaign.

Still nothing in Haast, with over 300 people. Wouldn't it make sense to extend it to the other end of the Coast? Karamea is getting it with even less people.
What do the red "tourist" lines mean on the map? New mobile coverage?

There's no fibre anywhere near Haast so it's hard to get bachhaul in. Whereas Karamea has fibre passing through town already.
