Ordered ours 4th October and there's been minimal progress. The property was already scoped because its a shared driveway, but had to wait for the new law and process to come into effect as we were waiting for consent from a neighbour who never responded (to our first attempt back in May 2017)

As expected they still didn't respond so things started progressing, as consents had been done, so Chorus turned up and cut a slit in the driveway then we never saw them again.

A letter came in a couple of weeks later saying that they've figured out a better way to install fibre so it has to go through the consent process, again, and that's the last I heard..

At this point in time I don't really care whether it goes ahead or not as we'll most likely be moving out of the rental soon anyway.

Not bad!

I am not overly impressed with the use of concrete in the garden and how the conduit was ran but ah well.. Did you have some cowboy swinging off a concrete cutter or one of those new German chainsaw things that does the same job? Was the conduit butted into the fence post there or ran the whole way through? I wouldn't drill a stud like that. Recipe for disaster next storm! With fences, once one bit goes the rest follows!

The ETP on the external wall should have not been left hanging on the bottom like it has and there should be a saddle clamp on that conduit to and bottom.

Otherwise not bad.

Only aspect I was disappointed with was the ISP supplied CPE which was inadequate for our needs. Replaced with EdgeRouter X, two Unifi APs and a pair of NanoBeams and we finally had excellent broadband available all over our property. Can't blame Chorus for that though! :)

Sounds like you cannot expect a consumer ISP to provide CPE equal to enterprise/business level.
I bet the CPE supplied would have worked as designed flawlessly!

Cannot be disappointed here, just realize your expectations were too high :)

Looks like the conduit butts into the fence post, but would've required some drilling for the cable to pass through.

ACK on the fence weakness point, but this one should be reasonably sturdy, even in the fiercest of storms. If it DOES blow down, having no UFB would be the least of our worries, I reckon.

I'll take your word on the other points, but considering other installs I've seen, I'm happy with the job they did.

Interesting; I'm with Chorus and don't have one. But what does it actually do? I was under the impression that you could connect the existing phone wiring directly to the "POTS1" port on the ONT.

They installed one for me even though I told them I didn't want it.

i believe early installs it wasnt a requirement but have changed how they do it and its now how they do it on every install

Just thought I'd add my install to the list:

Ordered fibre on a sunny December afternoon. Scope and install dates confirmed on Saturday morning. Working fibre service 12pm Monday. First connection in the area. Admittedly an easy install (SDU, 10m shallow grass trench, across a small path and up into the lounge via under the house.

Didn't have to speak to Spark once! Router turned up 10mins before the installers arrived lol. Copper turned off that afternoon. Don't think it could have bewn smoother.

sonyxperiageek: What is that ITP box next to your ONT? Is it something to do with phones?

The ITP (Internal Termination Point) is the POTS (phone line) tie-in. The ITP is standard on all installs unless it is specifically requested not to be installed, or the house has structured cabling and a home distribution hub. Different broadband providers provide phone services from different places - some from the Chorus ONT, and some from the broadband provider's Modem. Our technicians need a single simple point to push the phone services to as it allows people to change providers in the future if they choose to without needing extra phone wiring work. When getting Fibre installed, you can provide a face plate and jack point which matches the rest of your house for the technician to use instead.

Hi, would like to add my story, sorry to hijack your thread, but one with a few wrinkles but successful and done in a timely manner all the same.

Early Dec17 we were notified by my ISP (Spark that I am currently on VDSL2 48/19) that UFB is now ready for connection, various Chorus contractors had been digging in around Waikanae for a couple of months.

A day after that email arrived I took the bait and ordered an install, I was immediately given an appraisal date which was early in the next week, and offered an install date which was yesterday (24/1/18).

I should point out that our beach zone subdivision is roughly 10-12yrs old, and our cul de sac has no normal Telecom/Chorus pillars at each section boundary, instead it seems each property has a 20mm duct that goes to the curb area where it is tee'd into a 50mm duct and appears at a Tyco pit which in our case contains a copper OJ that connects 8 houses.

On the day of the appraisal the VisionStream tech arrived, he looked at what minimal work was required in my garage and decided he could probably complete the job there and then and duly started work, but alas, the copper leadin was snagged and nothing would budge it. he did not have a cable locator on him at that time so said the install would wait till the already decided date of 24/1 and got me to sign the approval documentation, which I happily did.

Yesterday (24/1) arrived and Ethan from VisionStream Paraparaumu duly arrived, an two hours late, but he did give me a heads up via txt that he was running late, so all good.

Once he arrived we quickly established that the current copper feed was jammed, and the cable locator indicated this jam was somewhere mid our drive. We also located a neighbours tee joint and noted that this too was installed in such a manner that snagging was going to happen, I strongly suggest that the technique of using a Tee joint that covers over a hole in the main 50mm duct is not a suitably re-entrant solution.

So now that it was decided that the existing 20mm duct was a dead duck we decided to dig for the main 50mm duct as it passed my letterbox, luckily its all sand as we are at the beach, so a few minutes later we found the duct and decided to run a micro trench up beside the drive, and then saw a micro tench across the foot path to the ETP. The results are in the following photos.

I have to say Ethan did a great job, was flexible in how he solved the problem and executed excellent workmanship, if anyone from Chorus is noting this, please pass this on.

Note that the retained copper two pair that runs from the now defunct 20mm duct has been removed from the old ETP and the excess shoved back down the 20mm duct so that it can be pushed back in service is ever its decided. Also the provided Huawai router has been replaced with a suitable Mikrotik.
