As mentioned above, browsing and general usage for the most part is not really boosted...it is nice getting my Steam and PSN games down lighting fast as well as other sources of media...

Yeah sure it is a luxury, but for $30 extra a month it is worth it IMHO.

(P.S the halving of my latency in many online games with Oceania server has suddenly made me much more competitive! Been having the best BF1 rounds of my life...)

You would think some ISP's would offer something in the middle? Say 500/50 or something. I'd go for that. Although I suspect the costs are no different so they don't bother.

I'm responsible for a lot of of the gigabit speed tests in Sydney.. Dark fibre from our Equinix cage to our office FTW. My next challenge is to get a 10gig speedtest :)

Still waiting on UFB at home.. another 18 months. next street up has had it for years. Still better than my parents in AU - they max out at 25Mbps on VDSL2.

I'm putting the address in the chorus maps multiple times a day to see when I can order. Will move the DSL back out to the shed so they will hopefully put the fiber in there so I can rennovate the house and not worry about it.

Sigh... yep, but sub 1G is just so yesterday... http://www.speedtest.net/result/7213380587 I know its only just over, I can do iperf's but its not a pretty GUI to show off with. Speedtest.net is not really very good at gig+ speed, too many variables on the test machine.

More like buying a Toyota that does the job very well, rather than a Porsche that you can't drive at it's top speed anyway.

But in this analogy the Porsche is only 10% more in price than the Toyota, not five times more.

I reckon I'm getting the Porsche and then driving it like it's a Toyota.

I guess Porsche maintenance might be an issue, but that no longer applies in the analogy :P

I watched a video a couple days ago from unbox therapy where he reviewed/shameless plug the Ubiquiti ampLifi mesh router, his "before" Speedtest was 119/20 and "after" was 200/220 which is a nice little bump, but he was absolutely fizzing about it.

Anyone know what the US averages?

I agree here, the Android App or Windows 10 App is much more reliable than using the browser.

iPerf 3 for TCP and iPerf 2 for UDP is much more reliable for speed testing.

And some ISPs still only have 1GB access connections (ahem @talkiet ) for their Speedtest servers. Ookla only recommend 1GB access too as they can't reliably test over 1GB.

I reckon even more accurately, it's like have 2 cars, with one limited to 200 kph, and one to 150 kph, but otherwise, identical in every way. As in the difference is irrelevant outside of bragging rights or speed tests.
