Well thanks everyone for your comments.

Since an ISP actually responded

I'll be looking to change to Xnet when my vodafone contract is up.

It's a real shame that usenet is becoming so unrepresented in this country.
It has served me well for many years..

Great news!

And I agree with you, it is a shame that Usenet has basically gone by the board in this country, but as long as we are still getting a feed from our international providers, we'll do our best to keep the news server going!

Do what most peeps do, sign up for a newsgroup account with one of the big providers.

Yes but then we have to pay for the traffic. Generally traffic with an ISP's network doesn't incur data usage. Your right thou its probably a pipe dream.. Someone needs to open a new ISP just for us leechers..

Thats why most ISPs will not be concerned about usenet, too much valuable bandwidth wasted.

Time to find a new industry!

If the ISP's provisioned decent amounts of bandwidth instead of having insane contention ratios it wouldnt be an issue. I mean seriously if Telecom told the public that "okay you can have a phoneline, but you have to timeshare it with 150 other people" everyone would have coniptions.. yet it seems to be acceptable for ISP's to do it.

I'm praying that if national give us FTTH, then they might have the sense to get the backbone upgraded too.. I dream of the day when we have broadband services like Korea (or Hong Kong, or Japan.. or most of the rest of asia..). No data caps.. very little contention.. insanely fast connections.. and did I mention no data caps?

Does that dream also include most of our traffic being domestic too or to other landlocked countries too?
