So have the spooks had a quiet word with Chorus to dump Huawei?
(Assuming Huawei make the current ONT)
I think only LFCs like UFF and Enable use Huawei ONTs, the current gen Chorus ONTs were Alcatel made.
ResponseMediaNZ: The virtual residential gateway (RGW) will be an interesting on as well. does the customer get a login to manage their side of the RGW or will it all be at RSP level.
I've found a couple of forum posts from India - where they seem to use the same ONT - where people are discussing logging into a Web interface to change some settings. So it looks like it's customer-configurable in the "usual way".

ditto wall power supply, and if any changes have been made to the power plug to the unit (is it still an RJ12 special?). 18W draw though... geez...
internal specs. It may be just a media converter, but cost savings have been made somewhere, and the fact that the old box is being kept for bitstream 3 says to me some features are definetly missing.
It's good progress, the wifi is probably to be expected but personally has no value for me. Same with the single ATA port, reality appears that noone seemed too fussed about driving the ability to turn on port 2.

As far as I am aware, this will only be for new Bitstream 2 connections
Bitstream3 will retain the old ONT
They will not be replacing existing ONTs (the cost does not make sense)
Day 1 they are not offering any of the new features like RGW or Wifi, but have talked about this coming later. Down the track if they are offering this I am not sure if there will be a swap out option for the ISP who wants to use these features.
I assume for faults they will keep the existing model of ONT if it needs to be replaced, rather than having to remove it all off the wall and fit a new one.
There are some small changes required to support the ATA voice port on the newer ONT as well
This ONT will not do 10GPON either, there is a different ONT for that. It uses a different db to GPON, so they can actually co-exist on the same fibre.
There was a demo at a Chorus presentation a while ago with a GPON and 10GPON feeding into the same splitter, then it being split out to all the end customers. It basically means they can deploy 10GPON with very little work and labour, connect the new 10GPON into the splitter and replace the ONT.

Its not actually "virtual" dependent on what you call a virtual RGW.
The ONT has the capability of a built-in RGW which can then be managed via TR-069 (RSP) or a web gui (customer), just like other RGWs.

Yes, Bharti use the same device. The are vertically integrated and have the RGW feature enabled. We won't, at least not initially.

I dont have the size of the PSU sorry, slightly different form factor, slim enough to fit 2 side-by-side.
It was never an RJ12, I guess hyou mean the mini-molex - no, it is now a barrel connector.

It's a bit more than a media converter :)
the NZ UFB services are pretty unique, and this ONT doesnt support the full VLAN transparency required for Bitstream3/3a. It has a more powerful CPU and more RAM than the current ONT.

No, definitely a new device. the trial will probably use a XS-250WX-A

Correct. If an RSP orders a service which needs a different ONT model, we'll have to swap it (much like the SFP ONT today)

No, the new ONT will become the standard for new installs and fault replacements. We have a nice simple process to swap the backing plate for the new one.

Yeah, nothing too major, it is backwards compatible and no SIP changes, only TR-069, but this is all RSP stuff that most people wont care about.

WiFi should be disabled on plans greater than said.
