Thanks everyone, I really appreciate your advice and experiences. I've got a valid reference now for future broadband and energy stuff.
Thanks for making this expat (or immigrant, lol) welcome!
Wee update.
I know I will only have myself to blame when things go belly up but went with Contact Energy in the end. 🙃
Seemed the simplest way to go for me, I will assess my energy use after 2 months and jump ship most likely.
Took over 2 weeks to get my fibre installed! Frustrating as they didn't keep me properly updated. Previous resident hadn't fully stopped their broadband service and that caused confusion and a hold up.
Finally got online this morning and online speedtests suggest that Vocus Communications is the actual ISP. Very fast at the mo, hope I don't need support/CS - who knows how they will be.
Thanks for the helpful advice. Keeping 🤞
Sorry, I wonder if I used the wrong terminology.
It's a modern block with fibre already installed, ONT in place etc..
It took 2 weeks for them to switch it on, lol!

These few cents can add up quite quickly - The price you quoted for Contact was actually rather expensive. For comparison, I pay 22.5c/unit with Flick currently.
Remember with contact you get about a 20% prompt payment discount and about another 2% for email-only invoicing.
This means my contact power bill is the cheapest out of the major providers each time I do a comparison.
From memory my daily rate used to be $1.73 and then 22c per kwh
With prompt payment discount it became $1.38 and 17.6c
However they just put me on to the low user rate where the daily is something like 33c and 27c per kwh

Thanks.
I only get 18% discount sadly. Lord knows how but that's all I'm entitled to. Yet to see my first bill.
