Cheers for the heads up. We should be able to track down its original owner, although I would hazard a guess they already have a replacement in place.

3rd Gen ONT’s are still being rolled out in stages so some areas don’t yet have them. As has also been pointed out there are still some cases where the 2nd Gen devices are used. ^Richard

On an unrelated note.

Is there any possibility to request an upgrade to the latest ONT?

Chorus installed the ONT (1st gen) in my network cabinet and the exposed fiber (yellow cable) is bugging the hell outta my OCD because my cabinet is quite full and am afraid of breaking it (it looks fragile).

I understand the newer models don't have this tiny fiber cable exposed?

The latest ont does manage the fibre in a less exposed manner, but the fibre lead you have there is very resilient and designed for way tighter bending, you could pop the ont off its backplate and gather a wee bit more length if you want but it's on you if you break it, so best left.

The installers told me about 6 weeks ago when I was installed that Chorus would slowly replace all the ONTS to the new version as Chorus are going to become a ISP in their own right and need the new ont version.

That was the response I got when I requested the new version ont and was denied. The response surprised me as well....but it seemed a strange thing to make up.

Well that’s just straight up incorrect. On several levels. We are rolling out the new 3rd generation ONT in waves, area by area but we’re not proactively replacing all the ONTS. And we’re certainly not looking to become an ISP.
