Is it a single thump or lots of ongoing thumps? Can you share a photo of the ETP? Is the ETP cover secured tightly, and can you remove it to check for anything odd?
Just trying to rule out some possibilities like air travelling through a conduit into the ETP and pushing out the cover, or rodents living inside it.

It’s a single loud thump. It did it again at 8:10pm.

Will share a photo in the morning and try taking off the cover.

Taking off the cover won't do anything - there is nothing inside it that could cause this.

Have you ruled out a water hammer issue? This sounds like the most obvious potential cause to me.

Do you turn on your dishwasher on about the same time each evening? Maybe 7:30ish?

If I don't see a YouTube video of this shortly showing the problem I will be extremely disappointed.

Photos just won't cut it in this situation I am afraid to say.

It'll rule out any noisy critters living in there at least. I think we should be taking bets on the cause here, can we do polls on GZ?

  • rats in box
  • water hammer
  • OP is hearing things
  • wind flapping exhaust vent
  • neighbour driving home and weight of the car squashes conduit pushing air into the ETP, forcing the loose lid to thwump out and in
  • high internet traffic causing overheating of the fibre, expanding the length from the street and pushing the ETP off the wall
  • kids throwing a ball at the side of the house

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Here is a photo of the ETP.
We are a back section down a long drive. Cable runs from the street along the drive way fence, then through a trench in the concrete patio to the ETP

I’m going to rule out it being a water hammer -no pipes or anything on that side of the house.
Also ruling out exhaust vents. This house has nothing like that.

There is no photo showing. What type of claddig do you have? It isn't metal of any kind is it?

8:10 pm...so just after sunset?  are you sure you are not hearing the bottom chord of the roof truss slipping on the top plate when the heat comes off the roof?

Gently wedge something thin like a wad of news paper pages in between the wall and that conduit.  See if the sound changes.

This is exciting stuff. Could be a bird in the roof? Was those days windy maybe gutter movement?
