According to Chorus Baseband availability (June 2018) KRI/S is a PCM cabinet.
I wouldn't hold your breath for them upgrading anything. Given they got no RBI2 money and there spending a fair amount removing BUBA cabinets with some fibre upgrades.
However that doesn't mean it won't happen at some stage.
RCG is well a fair bit behind schedule and the CEO has recently left. The Spark, 2d and Vodafone that are part of RCG are all different companies with different leadership teams today than when they started. So what happens if it does get canned, can you bet Chorus puts there hand up for some of that money. I would be surprised if they government would be keen to hand money out to Spark, Vodafone and 2degrees given they couldn't deliver on the project. Anyway that is getting very far off topic from this and there are a lot of if's but's and maybes there. The other outcome is the pull finger and deliver and you get good fixed wireless
The best option is for someone to pay for fibre install either someone with money or a developer building a subdivision.
Just on the loading coils. I had a similar experience with my grandmother getting ADSL2 as part of RBI 1 back in the day. She was "connected" according to snap, but no DSL light. Log fault & they track down loading coils as the issue. Was told the wait for this to be sorted may be quite some time. From memory it took around 3 months then from then on working @ 7-11~ Mbps. So it can be done. However I find it mighty odd that they would roll out a brand new RBI cabinet that is literally unusable until the coils are removed.

Anything I say is the ramblings of an ill informed, opinionated so-and-so, and not representative of any of my past, present or future employers, and is also probably best disregarded.
