ahh ok, so no need to worry that install that is currently there is fine, just leave it flapping in the wind!

might run a new gas main with a new 3 phase supply alongside, she will be right, chorus says its all good!

The main issue to me is the danger it poses to pedestrians. Health and Safety would bring charges for this.

Me and my son almost tripped over it. It doesn't look like it had recently been pulled up out of the concrete join either, assuming that it was installed in there initially? Cable looked reasonably clean.

It looks like it has been there like that for a while, I would remove it as it is a trip hazard! chorus can't charge you for the repairs upon removing it.

The install tech that installed this would have been paid "x" amount for that crappy micro trench, and all its going to take is for the council to replace the footpath in the next year or so and they will end up ripping the microduct.

Some network that these techs are building. I thought the network was meant to be built to last years to come, Not minutes to fail!

It was probably this guy, fed up with chorus.

kiwiharry: Hi.

Who should I report this issue to; Council or Chorus? Looks like fibre cable across the footpath.

I'd report it to council. The footpath is council property and they're more likely to take action against Chorus that results in Chorus' subcontractors changing their ways than reporting it directly to Chorus would.

Chorus are doing NZers no favors when they rip us off like this. They seem to have no QA at all on their build that NZ is paying billions for. Shame on them for this and all the other shoddy work they are doing. Im sure they do good work most of the time, but there is no excuse for the total lack of care they seem to exercise at times.

Zeon:

Man the fibre network install gets dodgier by the day. In India the fibre is literally installed using trees as the poles. Will be seeing photos of that here next.

Had that happen in Melbourne some years ago. Not fibre, just a copper phone line - but yep via a tree into the building 😭

Hmmm.... Not something that can be easily be removed as it would be connected to network infrastructure on street side and then it's private property on other side of footpath. I work nearby and was just walking past, so wasn't on my property. There was no immediate practical way for me to make it safe either.

"Trip" over it and "break" it.

But seriously, report it to the council who should take Chorus to task.

If it was in Christchurch, they would just "drown" it in road cones, so you would have to walk on the road to get past!

And it would stay that way for at least a year!

Unsure if should have started a new topic, but also noticed the following about 2 weeks ago nearby my home. It was still like this yesterday.

I'm assuming it is still work in progress; hence the road cones, but still think if it is a temporary run, the install could have been tidier and safer.

Cable comes up and out of conduit

Flown up into the tree

Back down and anchored to fence

...and across edge of driveway before it enters rain drain grate

Will see what it is like in about 1 months time.

Holy mother of temporary fixes! I've seen some stuff but that one takes the cake.

Anything I say is the ramblings of an ill informed, opinionated so-and-so, and not representative of any of my past, present or future employers, and is also probably best disregarded.

Its almost as if they were expecting there to be poles to run the conduit up...

Lol I would say that's a permanent solution by chorus's Standards, as they say they don't like to burry cables anywhere near 400mm deep nowadays!
