Dochart: Has anyone that’s been on both 2degrees and Orcon/Slingshot know if there is much of a difference in terms of line speeds, peering and international servers?
I can't answer to speeds, but as for peering. Hurricane Electric generally has a good overview. Here's the one for VocusGroup, and here's the one for Snap Internet
From the overviews of peers they both have comparable results, although 2degrees edges out Vocus by quite a margin, being that they have quite the spread of peers, whilst the majority of Vocus's (Vocus...i?) peers is themselves. The big one here is IPv6 though, where 2degrees has a pretty solid mix but over 50% HE, and Vocus's is almost 75% themselves.
I'm sure people will step in to correct me if I've got anything wrong, but it heavily depends on your use case. If you want connectivity to the US that has solid routes, I'd lean more towards 2degrees, the same goes for Europe. Australia I dare say Vocus has 2degrees beat, but they peer with each other and likely inherit each other's routes, so it's really a single extra hop. Yay for BGP, right? The string that holds the interwebs together
Hi! I'm TheoM, but you know that already. I run Linux mirrors in NZ together with 2degrees. Like a mirror added? PM me!

Doesnt 2 degrees have a $200 joining credit atm. I also think they are offering gibabyte speed at the same price as 100/20 for a 12 month contract?

They still have the credit, but the gigabit discount is gone. Meanwhile Orcon (and maybe Slingshot) still have a 3 months free promotion.

Personally I recommend Voyager, Very good price and very good service, I dont think they have CG-NAT but a static IP is $15 one off and worth it.
I left 2d because of their poor helpdesk and service ( was ADSL not UFB ), while there helpdesk is NZ based I found them useless.
I dont like spark, I find Vodafone the worst, Slingshot I had bad experiences with but I believe they are a lot better now.
I have been with Voyager for six months since UFB was installed and not skipped a beat, i did have to call once as I paid the bill twice, got to a human in 15 seconds and sorted in under two minutes - could not ask for any better than that.

I know enough to be dangerous

Maybe 2d are a bit of a victim of their own success.
