Its a new build, I doubt there will even be a SAM ID associated with his address, hence the huge chorus expense, its not just running the cable its the whole build documentation that goes with it

the documentation will get lost or be wrong in a few years time anyway, why bother ;)

He had smaller and larger ones also,

Iam in Central Otago, so you'd be looking for a local option,

and if public, did you get permission and consent or did you just do it?

Very much wish us rural people could get the same as the townies but unfortunately it most likely will never happen

To be fair... You would pay the same (or likely more) to have the same job done in town.

Exception being if it was a CFH funded fibre install. Which is kinda just taking advantage of the opportunity.

It was a public road in a rural location. Supply upgrade to 300amps.

Aerial feed replaced with underground.

The wanted to charge me 6ish thousand to trench through the road and reseal.

The lines contractor took care of any compliance issues. I assume there as its there network

thats pretty decent, they want to charge me 6ish thousand to run the power from the top of the pole to the bottom, on the same side of the road, so i can have an underground connection.

Just be aware that if you somehow did this Chorus may simply refuse to install anyway since this will be part of their network, not yours.

Their network extends to the demarc which will typically be the ETP on your property or possibly the ETP / pillar on the boundary depending on the situation. Any ducting under the road is their responsibility and unless this is done correctly with proper processes they could simply choose to ignore the fact you've paid $$ for work.

I'd be looking at WISP's in the area, there are a number covering Canterbury.

Unless you're a lightweight user (who wouldn't typically post on Geekzone) and never plan to use any streaming service then I would always recommend getting a fixed broadband service.

I'm not a huge user of data would use around 100 Gig a month. I'm not what you would consider a geek but what froum would be better to ask about an internet issue than geekzone haha

Don't understand why i cant use the wireless broadband at my place i have good 4g signal on my phone..

When i do the address checker on the skinny site it available to an address less than 1.5km straight line from my place and they have fiber so why would they want wireless?

The neighbor's cable crosses the road in front of my place but the chorus installer didn't know thee pipe size but doubted it would be big enough to push my cable through as well. I might have a go a digging down to confirm this on the weekend.

Sounds like you are classified as rural. In which case spark will offer service but not skinny.

Skinny don't offer rural services over 4g.

Anything you do could be looked at as temporary.

Better options may well exist within 5 years.

Starlink launches again today.

Five years on, our fibre/copper/cellular networks may have some robust competition.

We can but hope.

The issue is Spark sell a restricted number of customers per site, and Spark offers service in urban & rural areas however Skinny only offers it in urban areas. So because you are rural you will need to use Spark's address lookup and see what they offer.

Perhaps as has already been suggested you should talk to your neighbours and ask if you can do a a wireless link and use their connection. Yes that means you are at the whim of your neighbour, but that would work.
