Ok... so...

We have new 4G RBI plans up on our website. Also not far away from finalising a new unlimited mornings (0:00am-11:59am) add-on.

Option 2, we might be able to stick a pole on the road reserve with a radio picking up our signal from a nearby tower for you. Then run power / fibre in a trench back to your house.

Option 3, Rural fibre is also possible but economics require a few neighbours putting a few thousand dollars in each to get it installed.

the chorus checker tells me I can get adsl or maybe even VDSL but when I contact them or an ISP they tell me i'm too far from the cabinet

@ChorusNZ Can this be checked? Sounds like the Chorus map should not be advising VDSL

I'm currently looking into private fibre installations and i've only found one ISP that does them and I got a approximate qoute of, $10000+ just for my house or $2000-$3000 if there are multiple properties on my road which want a installation. The problem is i'm willing to pay $2000-$3000 but I doubt my neighbors would want to just for a faster internet speed.

Have a chat to your neighbours. You might be surprised in that some might be willing to pay a few k if they are also experiencing the same issues. Worst case scenario you get to know your neighbours better.

Hey @Linux, our website does state VDSL 'may be' available, although having looked into this it seems unlikely.

I'll forward this through to our web team as our checker is giving some odd results at a few addresses along this road. ^Matt

@chorusnz what is the max realistic Cable Length for VDSL? 1km ?

VDSL often good to around 2km - if a master filter & dedicated jack point is installed.

Upload speed drops off very quickly.

Yes, I found that (with master filter & direct cat6) - At gate I'm 1.2 km from cabinet, but at house I'm 2.0 km and VDSL download and upload were worse than ADSL. All websites say VDSL should be my preferred option but I don't think they correctly factor in how large rural properties can be.

Hey @nztim, we usually advise a threshold of around 1.5km for VDSL. However, this can vary depending on the quality of the lines. ^Matt

I think someone here on Geekzone did a setup with solar, VDSL router and a point to point link from their gate so they could get VDSL to their house.

I think someone here on Geekzone did a setup with solar, VDSL router and a point to point link from their gate so they could get VDSL to their house.

Unfortunately there are many large trees in the way (I have spare PTP gear I could use!). I have contemplated putting a VDSL router at the gate but the complications of fibre conduit to house, power, and security has meant I've just gone for ADSL and 4G (two external aerials gives me 40/50 Mbps max) with intelligent load balancing instead to overcome the limitations of both (ADSL poor upload, 4G 250 GB datacap). Hopefully Starlink works out and then it will give another option.
