Hi, so just find the ETP, although from your post signature it would seem you are in a multi tenant building. You just need to locate where the inbound line from the comms room distribution frame connects to the apartment wiring, the most likely place is in the now disused alarm panel, but it could be another socket, once disconnected (ie phones loose battery and dailtone) then it should be safe to connect your ATA, but first confirm no battery etc. I wont be in Welly in the near future, otherwise I would offer to do it.

I can do this for the OP if he wants, I will leave one jack point connected to the street and then integrate the wiring of the rest so he can transition to VOIP and can come back and integrate the last jackpoint when he is migrated

No I live in the burbs. The AirBnB is actually another premise in the Wellington CBD and not germane to this discussion.

The house actually has two pairs of copper coming into the ETP. One is Chorus's which I don't use another is Vodafone's which I do use. That is the one that needs to be disconnected I presume. I have never used the Chorus copper so would disconnect all the copper going into the ETP with no issue.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

Thanks. I might take you up on that.  Must make a few calls first to confirm number porting, which VoIP provider to use etc.

I am in Khandallah.

I messaged Spark and Vodafone and neither were able to provide me with a VoIP  line on the ONT so am now looking at other providers.

Any recommendatiosn? I want to be able to setup VoIP service first on any number and once it's working, port my current POTS number across after which I will have the ETP disconnected.

2talk or Hero but are excellent and have good calling packages and easy to setup a 2102 to communicate with it - However the 2102 is now EOL and would recommend an SPA112

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Pretty much just 2talk i think. maybe kiwivoip but i dont know their provenance, and 2talk seems to have come along well in the last 12 years or so.

Hi, 2Talk is what I use, but heard good things about Hero, similar offering as 2Talk.

Thanks. Have contacted 2Talk who on chat said my 2102 is okay. And I can get a free number to start with and then port later.

But their ordering system is broken, since when I requested the service, it failed on credit card authorisation so I am now waiting for them to resolve this.

I'm not that happy with their support. I signed up for the free account to start with and entered my credit card details and got a site error message. I then forwarded that message to their support team and have heard nothing.

Not very reassuring

OK got a 2talk account up and running with a 028 number and the SPA2102. Can make and receive  calls okay.

I will try a few cordless phones first before I pull the trigger and port my landline.
