I could get two ADSL lines, but using them separately would just give me two pretty poor connections. If bridging/load balancing is possible (e.g.using a TP link tl-r480t+) I could get 14mbs and prioritise some (my) devices?

Any experience with bridging/load balancing anyone?

That isn't quite how it works as your connection will have separate IP addresses and it is also highly likely one line will perform better than the other. Furthermore to add salt to the wound your upload won't be great either as maxing the upload on one of the connections (which a client will do) will saturate that connection. It just isn't a great solution to your problem.

Have you actually asked a wireless ISP if they can do something for you? I believe @myfullflavour covers your neck of the woods.

Ta for the explanation, I'm learning all the time!

Lightwire wont work (they advised that multiple neighbours have tried and failed).

Have asked Fullflavour.

Not yet found any others that cover my location.

My 2 cents: First we had wireless RBI. Coming from dial-up, we thought it was fantastic. But over time the buffering got worse and worse. At its very best, we reached 50 Mbps down with two external antennas, but congestion of the only available tower meant that lasted almost no time at all. Finally, a WISP put a tower on a nearby hill and we were able to get LOS by running a 50 metre cable up to a transceiver. Our internet still isn't perfect, but it is a whole lot better than it was before. This isn't a bad solution if it is all you can get.

2 DSL connections is something I did here before fiber (actually had 4 into the house at one time, 2 were for me) - problem is the copper is all crap and there is crosstalk and each additional connection added made the speeds drop. I even tried a dedicated cat5 to the POE's for each connection and that didnt make any change over the old 2 pair phone stuff.

I have lost the records but basically the 4th one made the total speed lower than having 3 of them synced up. If I was lucky the other lines would hold speed on a low (sometimes negative) noise margin but in the end with the dynamic line profile stuff it would get kicked on to a really bad profile after running like that for a while. After the flatmate left it was just my 2 connections and they were slightly better but it was still trash on one line. After everyone here down the driveway moved to fiber my upload increased signifigantly on the copper connection but I got rid of it once it seemed there wasnt a chorus van in the street every day potentially breaking things.

Cheers for all the info.

Still hoping Fullflavour can come to the party, but if not I think I might initially end up with an ADSL connection and a separate 4G, and simply spread my devices over these. Still crap tho.

Starlink (and a chainsaw for some of my trees) is starting to look like a good option for later in the year.

Yes, this reply is coming over Starlink, and I prefer it over my 4G and DSL links. I also am surrounded by trees, but mounting on top of roof I don't have any obstructions.  Is slowly getting better in terms of micro outages as well, below is a plot of these, recently had a day with no outages which is excellent progress.

EOL coverage?

When I lived in welcome bay they had a transmitter on the TV tower, but it was quite directional.

Thanks for that, looks like 500gb @ 25mbs costs $149pm. Could be worse, I'll give them a call in the morning.

Cheers

So...

EOL - think they can give me a connection subject to line of sight confirmation, but at a maximum of 10mbs (due to capacity) for $149pm. Don't think it stacks up when a 7mbs connection ADSL is only half the price.

Fullflavour - May be possible if I can get a neighbours permission to attach a dish/antenna to their barn which is a bit up the hill from me, and run a cable down. Off to bribe the neighbours soon. Huge thanks to Jesse @myfullflavour for coming out today at short notice :)

Still open to other suggestions!
