Speed and ping can be two very different things depending different upstream inflenceces. Sometime your better off taking an extra 15ms for another 100mbit...

Most providers won't have control as they are handing over at nz/au.

To have solid throughput to EU you really need to think about tcpip tunning for long distance/high latency.

This is from a wired connection (linux host) with 2d and gigabit connection: https://www.speedtest.net/result/c/a9b4cef0-ea34-4bd5-aef2-e6df604d44a8

Did a few tests and things jumped about a bit re speeds.

2degrees gigabit on WiFi...not bad! (don't have any devices at home with an ethernet port apart from the TV)

As others have said, fibre here is to the home, and ISP routes can (and do) change - and EU is a long way away, so can't get around the laws of physics re latency!

However, we use fibre regularly for video calls to UK and mainland Europe, and it is fine.

Good luck for the move.

Looks like lots of good options, thanks for all the speed tests. Might go 2degrees, possibly with mobile connections also. Side question, is the data on pay monthly group plans per user or shared?

On 2Degrees pay monthly you can share your data, but there might be some specifics around plan level etc. I share my data with my ipad cellular and a couple of vehicle tracking devices and it works well.

If you were worried about having a 4G backup, I would consider getting mobile and fibre with separate providers. It may provide little real world difference, but if one provider is having issues there is more of a chance the other provider isn't.

Sharing data from a pay monthly to a prepay account on 2degrees here, no problem.

And yes, if you want close to 100% uptime you will want to have different mobile and broadband providers (and make sure you don't just choose someone reselling the same network).

It hasn't happened often, but I have had times where both 2degrees fibre and mobile has been down at the same time.

I have a pre-pay Spark SIM ready to go for the next time that happens.

That's a good idea, last time I was in NZ I added a spark esim to my phone very easily, so I could use that as a backup.

For the data sharing, I meant that 2degrees offer group pay monthly plans, but I can't see if the data offered is for each user in the group or for the group as a whole.
