When you are waiting on HALO 25 to download a 100GB DLC patch so you can get back in the fight,  you will come crawling back here to eat those words :)

Also we all know gamers are always right. 25G will reduce ping because there is a bigger pipe from the gaming PC to the internet and so all the pings can just get through... even if the gaming PC is only on Gigabit.

Just like a customer a number of years ago had a wireless router on top of his PC because wireless is better as there is no cable to go through - only air which reduces ping (true story).

That patch will download quicker because there is no fighting for bandwidth even though the console only has Gigabit.

All gamers know what they're talking about.

Having a 25G connection reminds me of this:

What is the point. It wouldn't be of any use apart from seeing a brilliant and unusable speedtest!

There are most certainly some use cases coming for this.
XGS-PON and DFAS already are being utilised with the right setups and software (wink) (wink)
From a consumer perspective, yeh it's ridiculous. But theres a handful of corporates out there that stand to benefit from gaining speeds like this over the current existing GPON fibres in the ground.

Glad its been demonstrated with some proper Nokia carrier grade gear too......

Im all about utilising the pipes :D

dfnt: Still waiting for 1gbps/1gbps

You can get it....

....but it's more expensive than 8G Hyperfibre :)

I imagine we could shape a 2G Hyperfibre connection to 1G (for less than the full 2G HF plan) if you really wanted ;-)

So, I realise this is a silly question but this is down the same physical fibre type that I have got to my house..??

If true, to me it just reinforces the foresight of those that decided fibre to the home and not the local street.

Enough of us probably remember 14 kps dialup connections in the evening once our parents had gone to bed.

One of those things where the kernel of truth has been distorted, given the hardware they were using and the distances involved the opposite would have most likely been true in their situation, but it is true that the latency through air is less than through fibre over the same distance.
