Reconnection at those addresses probably will never happen. Nine of the 10 houses were sold for removal for a total of $76,000. The removal company must have thought there'd be some value in the houses if they were paying the council.

Locally there was a house that was completely refurbished and is currently for sale. What I've noticed is that the fibre connection that miraculously appeared while the house was occupied by squatters has vanished.from the outside of the building and no ONT is obvious inside. Chorus fibre checker still thinks it's connected.

Chorusnz:

The wording is pretty explicit with its "do not remove" message in my opinion. Not sure changing that is going to stop people any more than it does already. Perhaps we aught to try shackling it to the wall. Then maybe people will get the message 😅

To be fair on some of the ONTs I've seen (like my one -- the newer one with the Wifi antennas) that text is grey on white background at what looks like 8pt size --  a double accessibiliy fail. Can appreciate that some might not be able to read it. Also the warning text appears at the bottom after lots of tech details (MAC address, wifi, etc) so I can also imagine many people take one look at the first few lines and not bother reading to the bottom.

My work sees me working in the accessibility area with people with not great language and I see this happen frequently -- important info appearing in small text at the very bottom so people don't realise and need someone else to explain what it all means -- maybe they can't read 8pt font, maybe they can't read grey on white, maybe they don't have the confidence in reading, etc. Drives me mad when designers do silly thing like that.

Anyway Chrous I think would do well to make that warning a lot bigger, black on white (or even red on white) with a big red exclaimation mark next to it, and have it as the top, etc. Won't deter everyone but would certaintly deter at least some people and save a lot of time.

I have also heard of moving companies not understanding the label (or seeing it) and packing up the wall-mounted ONT, thinking it's part of the tenants property.

I had a bunch of these printed on 25mm round stickers...

They're obvious, without looking unsightly. Also, note the lack of the word please, which is significant.

Still doesn't cover this type of case where the house is uplifted and moved, possibly never used again.

Maybe Chorus pay enough to the demo companies to get them back rather than binned.

Just back on topic for the original post, but I've offered to pay for them to ship the ONT for me so we can film some instructional videos with it. It's one of the most requested things we get asked for by our customers (and clearly something desired if you look at comments on Chorus' YouTube!)

@BMarquis / @Wheelbarrow01 - once we've finished shooting our videos, we'll send it back to you in early January. Could you please let me know where it should go to?

Same  case for the power supply for an antenna masthead amp,

They almost always took it with them.
