I have had a laptop on dialup for years and decided I needed broadband so I rushed out and made a few purchases before I looked into it fully.  I have since started reading a bit of info on the net and think I need a bit more advice before I make any more blunders.  (Possibly to late!!)



I agree with the advice so far, just use the TG585 provided by Telecom and return the WRT160N (if possible) as you don't really need it.

What plan with Telecom have you signed up for?

Thanks to those who replied to my original post. 

I did things the wrong way round, I bought the laptop and the Linksys router, then went to Orb and signed up for twelve months and received the Thomson free of charge.

My problem was that I had no idea what I really needed as people selling these things tell you that you do need their product, even if you dont.

I ended up taking the Linksys router back to the store, and set up our PC and two laptops as a network using the Thomson TG585 V7 which is working well so far.  

Having thought about it I decided that I was more likely to get phone support from my provider Telecom if I was using a product they had supplied, however I have not had to test that theory yet.
