I have just noticed a change. My numbers are now appearing with the zero attached now. As I've set my phone to add a zero I'm getting two zeros.

All they need to do now is put some smarts in so that local calls just show the local number (without the area code) and remove the number from coming through as a name as well and they will have perfected it.

What would be really cool would be for them to actually do lookups of the CID and transmit the caller name as well as the number. I can do it at home with my Asterisk PBX, I just have to manually store the names and numbers in a database which is checked for all incoming calls.

That would be awesome, I doubt however it would ever happen because of privacy reasons.

I'm not sure whether there are any privacy reasons - the content in the white pages is copyright to Telecom but is effectively in the public domain. Sending the subscriber info as part of the CID is no different to just sending the number and there is nothing to stop you sending your details much like blocking CID now. The service is quite common in many countries overseas.

Off topic but the asterix PBX has interested me for a while. I not good enough of Linux to understand how it really works tho.
