paradoxsm: We have an office bet that woosh won't survive the year out... They are only living so far on the few students and daring phone service users out there.

I'll put a beer on that! I Believe however that a reincarnation of Woosh will exist past the end of the year - the business is churning through way to much money to continue to be viable and the simple pack is the likes of Craig Heatly and Stephen Tindall do have a make a call whether you simply walk away from an asset or continue to pump money into things in the distant hope that maybe oneday in the very distant future that the company may get close to breaking even.

Having said that though many of the posts here describe issues that Woosh need to sort out - connection should be free or cheap if you have an existing modem, you shouldn't have to sign contracts, and you should be able to access Woosh anywhere in the country ($20 roaming fee is a joke).

I'll be fighting you for the asset, I reckon $1 is a bit cheap. I could probably stretch to $10! :-)

Well, Woosh seems to think that Telecom's high landline charging - $42.80 + $3.25 maintenance fee - gives their phone and broadband service an edge.

If you just look at the money, that's certainly true, but the reliability and performance issues have hurt Woosh. The new charges and long contracts ain't gunna help either.

Does Woosh or ipWireless rather have an upgrade path? I know that Woosh uses UMTS TDD instead of FDD like Vodafone, so does that mean HSPA is out of the question?

HSDPA is a future upgrade path for Woosh and they have mentioned in the past that it would be a logical upgrade path for them. I was told some time ago that all the newer sites had IP Wireless gear that was HSDPA upgradeable but a lot of the earlier Woosh gear would need some hardware to be replaced.

I guess the big question is whether or not they have the money to actually do that.

Apparently there is sone TD-CDMA upgrade path but sort of lost interest in this one. (after trying to revere engineer a woosh modem)

it's a good network but poorly managed. (not all their fault either., Co-Location would have helped)

I am an unsatisfied woosh phone customer. The only reason I use Woosh is because I live in a stupid apartment building that wont let me connect a landline (They resell an extention of their PABX for MORE than a Telecom landline, and it doesnt even have DDI)

Anyway, I live about 15 metres from a Woosh Cell Site, get perfect signal etc but the call quality on the Woosh phone is CRAP! I would liken a national call to about the same as Skype over Dialup. Echos, Delays and Voice Garbling. I even get a bad echo on local calls. Calls to cellphones range between ok and paper cup with a piece of string.

Anyway, unless Woosh sort this out soon, I will be changing to a Landline as soon as I move (later in the year)

Connect the modem to the PC and follow this..

Now locate the application on the CD called UEstatus.exe and run it from CD, it won't work properly but will work enough for you to see signal.

the strength and quality must be consistently in the green, any red patches and you need to reposition the modem or get a booster antenna.

It's very difficult to get a good quality signal but when you do it works great.

it's pretty much not the coverage but quality of the signal, follow those steps and you'll soon find out why.

if that doesn't work PM me and i'll send you the stripped drivers which is enough to test.

Mines on "hold" while I wait for them to get their s**t sorted out It went really funny towards the end I noticed..

I might have custardised, I noticed they blocked my access to everything apart from email (could log into the manage customer pages but they have blocked that off now as well.)

Hmm Maybe I'll just terminate it now. I've waited two weeks for a replacement power adapter.

Hey I'm sorry to hear you have these technical issues with Woosh. I have no idea what is wrong but I can tell you my call quality here in Mt Albert is great. I have not experienced any of the issues you report. I did have all manner of faults last year while they were ironing out the bugs but when it was working it always sounded great. So far I have had no technical problems since Christmas & have not needed to reboot my gateway so far this year.

What you have sounds like it might be a signal issue? Are you using a booster antenna?

I live about 20 metres straight line from a woosh cell site. The only thing in between my gateway/modem and the cell site antenna is a sheet of double glazed glass.

The modem reports full signal strength and full signal quality.

I have to reboot my gateway about once every 7-10 days.

Also, I have recently started having issues with recurring loss of connection. (This has been happening in the last 2 weeks or so) Comes right by itself after about a minute.

Yes this sounds like an issue a firware upgrade will fix. Before I had my firmware upgraded I was re booting the gateway quite often.

I have taken my gateway around to a few different spot in Auckland for use & it has always worked fine.

I really have not had a reason to use it now so I have not installed it. Since the last firmware upgrade at new years everything has been working sweet.
