I go off-topic but the 'student card' is just a BNZ branded ATM/Debit card issued to students.

Not really a true 'student card' as they claim but instead a discount card for banking with BNZ.

Actually you can get the student card without opening a BNZ bank account, but if you open a BNZ tertiary account you will get the student card free, which also doubles as an ATM card instead of paying $20.

To be honest most of the information I have gotten about it was from BNZ which gave the impression that it was a BNZ exclusive account.

There is a quite good deal from Quicksilver, but you need to get hold of a student card (a discount card for tertiary students), 3.5Mbps/128kbps 30 GB data cap for $55.

lovely... 128k upload... really useful. watch those 5 meg emails crawl.......................... still much better plan than we have seen for some time. I'm in IHUG BLIIINK 256 20GB for $60 need the higher data cap as it's shared between myself and the leech in the other half of the house.

I'm rather keen on those deals even though i can't get the discounts....

FREE NATIONAL TRAFFIC... most of my large data stuff is "podcasting" radio stations, (saving streams to hard disc instead of listening) This looks very very useful.

Can anyone on the 3.5 Mbps DSL plans vouch for actual download speeds? It's quite reliant on the distance from your exchange, I heard. If you're in a major city, does this guarantee you 3.5, or do you have to live right next-door to an exchange to get that speed?

IMHO, they should charge based on actual speed, not the promised maximum. Would make their billing systems horrendously complicated, so I'm sure ISPs would never do it.

You can test at the DSL Speedtest (pops)

Actually, hey, those Quicksilver plans (the student card one) seems pretty good! And aggressive, it's quite a bit cheaper than other comparative ISP plans!

30Gb... That's JUST enough (more would be better of course, but it'll do), 3.5Mbps (great, more than enough).... 128kbps upload.. (Ugh, but nothing we can really do unless pay a really hefty "not-worth-it" premium for 512k uploads)..... And to round if off.. $55, fair price!

Only qualms I have with it??? I can't sign-up!! (their sign-up page seems to bw down)... And it charges a $45 transfer churn fee...
