sbiddle:
kelly2626: u won't need a sky decoder box. telecom has their own decoder boxes. it'll be an XTRA service. It will be available when telecom upgrade their network to 24Mbps. they are working on it. They'll have nto REMOVE the NATIONAL data caps because TV ovcer broadband will use alot more than 10GB a month. Can't wait for FREE national data.

Who said anything about free national data for everybody? They can just set an option for zero rating in their billing system for fixed IP addresses which would mean that data from a certain IP range would be billed differently to your usual usage.

It would make more sense to me to use a VC on the ADSL to have differnet CoS per service such as streaming media or Broadband and multicast to users. This would also allow customers to retain their existing ISP's if they so wished. COMCOM is already giving Telecom the shadey look and if they introduce Sky via ADSL 2+ but said you needed to have an Xtra connection this wouldnt go down well. if you could use your existing ISP then this would require some sort of peering on Telecoms part for this service to make this work and we know their stance on that.

1/ Expect that you won't see on your broadband meter, any usage relating to content from any Sky via ADSL2+ offering.

2/ Expect you will still have a usage meter, and usage as you know it today, will be measured.

3/ Luckily, expect towards the end of the year usage caps (e.g: Xtra 10Gb cap) will increase. This is because national traffic vs international traffic is better understood by Telecom NZ, and in turn the retail arm of the business, Xtra Ltd. It will all work out better for us users.

4/ Expect that the current changes to the Jetstream network to relate to CoS and delivery of Sky via ADSL2+ (i.e UBS & ATM backhaul)as mentioned in the post before mine, and this thread here: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?ForumId=49&TopicId=7361

This is to make the Telecom/Sky trial more than a small trial.

5/ Xbox360 is both a huge competitor, and a cool service enabled by broadband, it's also a MS portal to offer Consumer/Mass Market type ontent like movie trailors, music video etc. Meanwhile on the horizon is "Vodaphone broadband to the home". Content to the home is probably an area Telecom would like to service well. So, Sky via ADSL2+ will happen but probably more Telecom/Xtra branded, as Sky content would not be the only content supplier to Telecom. If your ISP isn't Xtra, >>>NOT A PROBLEM<<<
