Press/stuff web site got so annoyingly slow for me that I didn't pay for a paper... I downloaded a copy of adblocker and blocked anything that didn't come off the tm servers.
GZ is useful so I'm considering paying for a sub next year just cause I choose to support a local team doing good stuff... that's effectively the same thing as paying for content the way the article outlines. I'm just giving my cash to Feri and he's whacking some of the noise of the site and an continue to bring us some great content from his home in Remuera. ;)
I use tc.nz in chc.nz simply because everythings faster. I pay more for that service than using Woosh (which I have tried for 6 months and didn't work well).
My next upgrade will be to fibre, which I expect I'll pay even more for...
A host of ppl host content on .nz servers because it delivers to user.nz faster than putting it in .us for a fraction of the cost.
In short, we're already doing all this stuff, we're just not making that much noise about it.
