Relax. No software is being installed on your PC.

- Do you think Telecom will supply just Xtra with "error codes", or all ISPs get them? I wonder.

It's easy, all Telecom needs to do is provide a useful/simple utility that sits in the system tray and shows you an accurate data usage for the month. People will download it because it's useful and easier than checking the usage website and Telecom can monitor the connection all they want without anyone *really* caring.

How often do you read every phrase before you "agree" to install any software.

Telecom >REALLY< doesn't have the time to support any idea of a mass desktop client software rollout. And, the people in
Networks @ Telecom probably would be interested in the data, but already have MILLIONS of dollars of investment in Alcatel & network solutions!

Xtra might for its Xtra Customers, but then each ISP would do it for their own Customers.....

OK, found out from the horse's mouth (Stephen Crombie, GM for technology and network investment at Telecom) what the software actually is. It's a diagnostics disc to assist helldeskers when customers are having problems, basically. So not a network monitor.

It is highly likely Telecom will provide these codes to other ISPS, via Telecom's Wholesale Division, why would they not? After all it's only in Telecom's interest todo so as at the end of it all they are the ones providing the service.

Cheers

Either:

1) Telecom are just trying to collect information to help them impove their service (perfectly possible)
 or
2) They would quite like to know, oh I don't know, maybe how many machines you have connected to that WiFi router...
