And how is the Hosting Direct DDoS related to the Kordia outage?

velofille: Rimuhosting have some of our VPS in there, and we got told it was a DoS attack. our servers are under hosting direct network, so this is where we got our information

I think HD attract a few DDOS attacks (I wonder why), hence the fancy firewall.

Time to find a new industry!

Kordia/Orcon sell domestic and international IP transit to other ISP's now via their new company/division Odyssey Networks.

Some background info from awhile back on what they were doing (ie: going direct from Southern Cross rather than via a T1 transit provider) on Thomas' blog (CTO @ Orcon )
http://www.f11.co.nz/wordpress/2010/12/international-inter-networking/

HD use Odyssey networks for IP transit, they also started out using Orcon's virtual ISP service to provde ADSL...  believe they are currently setting up directly with Telecom wholesale now though.

Basically HD is quite a large consumer of Kordia/Orcon/Odyssey's services.
