If sky have worked on your telco cabling then all bets are off as to where and how it is connected. You will need to get under there and have a look, chances are they have just chopped into any random cable and joined onto the line. If you have old 3 wire sockets with a master then that absolutely trashes ADSL performance.

Ok might be onto something here.

Plugged in my spare modem an RTA1025W got the same sync speed. But much different attenuation figures.

The Vodafone router reported 20db attenuation downstream
The Dynalink reports 36DB downstream, which I guess would explain my slow sync speed.

Here is a screenshot comparison

Just read that the demarc point in an older house can be the first telephone socket.
Is this the case?

Am trying to locate one in a 1970's house and can't see anything obvious outside so was starting to think of looking in the garage/at the fence line of the property etc ...

In our 1970s house the demarc is actually a little Telecom box on the wall inside the house near the kitchen.
A new demarc has since been made under the house when there were extra phone sockets added and there's now also a master splitter under there.

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

Ok thanks, we'll go back and have another closer look.

Oh and do you still gain the benefits of the master splitter regardless of telephone sockets being 2 or 3 wire etc? Really hoping a new VDSL master filter will just isolate the modem from the rest of the mess downstream inside the house.....

I had a master filter installed, No luck still have the same sync.

The only way I can better it is using DMT tools, which buys me another 1mbps. So up to about 6500kbps now.
