networkn: I can't recall, what is the "break" line noise threshold for Chorus to install VDSL? 12db?
networkn: Anyone know if they are going to relax that sometime soon? I would accept slower speeds (Modem Reports 13.4). I did hear they set very high standards for the first few months and might relax it... 13db is about 1km correct?
cyril7: Ummm, just to check the comment by networkn, he said the "break line noise threshold" but both CUni and Steve refered to line attenuation, which is what they comment should be about.

_Allan: I have been considering upgrading to VDSL. When Hosting Direct had their special offer on last January I did make further enquires. However I was not convinced it was an ideal solution. Part of the issues I have with changing to a VDSL service is that I am moving away from telecom, who have provided me with a pretty good service for many years now.
I read with interest everyone?s experience with the various VDSL services.
I basically have a pretty good ADSL 2+ service with speedtest.net reporting 13mb/s download.
However I would like a much higher upload speed, than what is currently is supplied on my telecom connection.
I figure I?m about 900 meters from the cabinet, and I have read that this may be a bit too far?.
Is there a way I can find out how much wire there is from the cabinet to my home?
I have put my modem stats below ? Is my Line Attenuation too high?
Can anyone guess from the information I have provided if VDSL would give me a better upload and/or download speed?
TIA
My modem stats are:
DSL Type: G.992.5 annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 945 / 16.228
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]: 0,00 / 0,00
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12,0 / 19,0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 9,5 / 17,5
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 15,5 / 12,5
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / BDCM
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0

kiwitrc: Tawa Wellington, 21M down and 7M up, line sync rate is 22M down and 11 up, on Hosting Direct and pretty happy with them so far. Work connection.
