sbiddle: One of the biggest advantages of EUBA is also also has the ability to do PPPoE over ADSL2+ with a compatible modem if your ISP supports this. PPPoA is still supported as the ISAM does transparent PPPoA -> PPPoE conversion. This is a huge bonus for anybody who doesn't want to deal with pesky bridge mode configuration or a Draytek DV120 for PPPoA -> PPPoE conversion.

I'd be keen to see what performance benefit you've seen from PPPoE vs the normal PPPoA as so far in our testing it makes none so long as you're using a decent CPE.

Ah but it takes just about as much effort to configure it if you use a separate modem + router.

I use a Dynalink RTA1320 + WRT54G in half-bridge mode for my DSL connection - PPPoA.

And for my VDSL connection I use a Zyxel P870 + E4200 in full bridge mode - PPPoE.

I know half-bridge mode is a bit of a hack, but can't say I ever had a problem in the last 5 years I've been doing it, but i can understand businesses would potentially prefer the more tidy way of doing it.

I use a Netgear WNDR3700 (highly recommended). It worked first time with a TP-Link modem router in half-bridge mode, but I had another use for the TP-Link so bought a RTA1320. A couple of firmware upgrades and some incense and candles finally did the trick.

It is absolutely rock solid though. It's the only setup I've had that doesn't require periodic reboots.

But you're ignoring the obvious - it allows multiple PPPoE sessions and multiple IP's over standard ADSL2+, something that can't be done using PPPoA.

That first point is a fair onel if you wanted to provide dual or triple play services over EUBA90, 180 etc. For EUBA0 there would only be one session. We've been providing multiple IP addresses via routed subnets for years with WAN connections using DSL :)

My son uses Steam - he hasn't mentioned any probs but I'll check with him.

Have you logged this with Maxnet?
