this is on a beta firmware 6.0

By "previous" do they mean 5.22 or 5.51? If it's 5.22 that'd be great, though a bit of an admission that their new DSL implementation is rubbish.

See there is a security issue with Fritzbox

Attacks on FRITZ!Box clarified - Security advice still in effect - Updates will be released shortly The attacks on FRITZ!Box that occurred over the past few days have been clarified. Due to the concentrated work of the development departments, AVM was able to identify the attack patterns of the perpetrators. According to these findings, the perpetrators attacked via port 443 therefore could break into the FRITZ!Box. During these attacks, the perpetrators also obtained passwords. Over the course of the weekend, AVM will make software updates available to prevent further attacks following this pattern. AVM has handed over the latest findings to the investigating authority. Peter Faxel, CTO of AVM: “Software development at AVM undergoes several security levels and the software is additionally checked by notable experts. Therefore, we regret all the more the latest incidents and the limitations placed upon our customers at the moment.” The attacks observed so far affect only FRITZ!Box devices with the MyFRITZ! service or the remote access enabled. Since it is possible that other passwords may have been obtained in addition to access data, AVM urgently advises FRITZ!Box users to change all passwords and log-in data stored in the FRITZ!Box. Instructions can be found at the AVM Security pages. The recommendation to close port 443 (“Internet access to the FRITZ!Box via HTTPS”) remains valid and prevents these attacks. Starting this weekend, AVM will provide new firmware versions for FRITZ!Box models. Once the firmware has been updated, remote access and MyFRITZ! will be available without restrictions. At the AVM Security pages users find an overview of the currently available downloads.

I've just joined the club today. I wanted to make sure I was up with the play, so I've ready every damn post in this thread. That's a lot of reading!

I was lucky and got a fantastic tech for the master splitter install. He was polite, did some very tidy work, and was done in a good time. He even waited for the Fritz (7390) to sync on both ADSL2 and VSDL to grab some comparative stats.

On ADSL2, with the master splitter in place, the Fritz was syncing at 13.8Mbit down / 1.2MBit up with an upstream attenuation of 7dB. I'm about 250m from the cabinet by road, so these are a little lower than I'd expect. I'm guessing that the street cabling is taking the scenic route somewhere.

Here are how things look on VDSL:

I'm currently running the 06.01 firmware. I know that I'll probably be able to get a better speed on the 05.22 firmware, but I'm happy with these speeds for now. I'll wait until the 06 beta's modem downgrade feature makes it into a mainstream release, then give it a shot.

There are a couple of surprises in here for me. First is that I went straight onto DLM-1, when I was expecting to be on DLM-6 to begin with. Hopefully this keeps up.

The second surprise is how clean my line is on the current profile. VDSL had been up for about 3 hours at the time I took those shots, and I had expected there to be at least a few CRC errors per hour. There's just that one in the screenshot, and one more has popped up while I've been typing this. Hopefully this means good things for my connection.

I can't wait to see how things look once DLM training is complete. I'd like to see a slightly higher sync speed, so hopefully the DLM is just being conservative to begin with. I might be a little far out for 17a, but there have been others with similar speeds move over. Fingers crossed!

Firstly; welcome to the thread! Secondly; holy CRAP man, you read the entire thread!!?? Did you take a week off!? :D Kudos for that mate!!

Yup, your line isn't looking bad for that attenuation. You will definitely see a speed improvement dropping your firmware down to an older version. 17a will only activate on a line with ~7db attenuation so you're very likely out of luck there.

jokes aside though, well done! the whole thread! dedication!

looks like your lines pretty clean, clearly a bit of crosstalk still, but not much. i could see it rising to the early 40s. be it tweaking or not.

with such a long line (electrically) 5.22 may not give very much improvement in speed however..

@nzgeek, yup welcome, nice one. From your attenuation, spectrum and sync rate your line looks fairly similar to mine. Currently I've got it tweaked to 41/10 and have had it a fair bit higher in the past without any issues - see what your errors do but I suspect you could do similar or probably better.

(EDIT: Just leave it alone and let DLM do its thing for the first 10 days/couple of weeks ;-) )
