After downgrading to .24, line stats normal again, but sync speed has slightly dropped. For this line attenuation of 6db, reading from other posts should be on a different profile and get better sync speed right.

Yes, eventually. DLM is supposed to switch to 17a on a short line 90 days after the last DLM profile change.

Im pretty sure when I jumped to 17a, my last dlm change wasnt 90 days ago.  It was more like 1 month ago....

profile changes, not DLM profile changes if i understand it correctly (eg 8b -> 17a or 17a -> 8b)

Yep, sorry, that's what I meant. Profile change not DLM level change. Initial connection counts as a profile change. At least that's how we think it works.

I've had some good news and some bad news. The good news is that even though Chorus weren't scheduled to come out until tomorrow morning, they managed to fit me in today. I asked the tech if he'd restarted the card at the cabinet and he said that he had, although I'm not sure if I completely believe him.

The bad news is that my upstream speeds are really bad after the resync. The Fritz is reporting that my max upstream throughput is 3624 kbit/s, and current throughput is 536 kbit/s. I had been getting an upstream max of around 13K kbit/s, with a throughput of 10K kbit/s.

I think I'll leave things as they are for now, to see if DLM kicks in overnight and adjusts the line. If not, I might try rebooting the router tomorrow morning and see if the speed improves. I'm only about 250-300m from the cabinet so I should be getting much better upstream speeds.

your fritz will only sync at a max on 10360 upstream, so im unsure where you are getting 13k kbits from.

sounds like the tech tinkered with your profile a fair bit rather than simply doing basic trouble shooting, line says its connected, it is clearly not. unplug it, and put it back in again.

give it a few days for DLM to do its thing, if DLM doesnt do anything, explain to snap that after the tech messed with things, you saw a substantial drop in upstream speeds, and would like DLM reset.

how are you error rates looking?

I was talking about attainable rate vs current throughout. 13K was the rate that I could have done if not for the 10K limit.

I pulled the DSL cable for a minute. Sync came back in a good time and the speed went back to normal.

Downstream is 35432 current, 35560 attainable; upstream is 10352 current, 13712 attainable. DLM-1 with bitswap on.

hio77: how are you error rates looking?

They're a bit erratic. Before forcing the resync, I had only 1 CRC error in the first hour and a half. After the resync, the error rates have climbed and then fallen.

From the DSL page (Fritz / exchange):
ES: 155 / 0
SES: 0 / 0
CRCPM: 0.69 / 0
CRC/15min: 1 / 0

The approximate values from the unrecoverable error graph on the Statistics tab are:
1500 - 0
1600 - 1
1700 - 0
1800 - 8
1900 - 35
2000 - 38
2100 - 52
2200 - 38
2300 - 11

perfectly fine error rates. its pretty normal to see large error rates till your fritz settles for an hour or so.

looks like your lines pretty happy again.

attainable, i see where you were going. normally we dont look at attainable for two factors thus my confusion, firstly the fact that the 5.22 firmware shows zero normally. secondly its limited to 70/10 regardless.

Here's an update on my line. Ever since I did the resync yesterday, my CRC errors have been slowly rising.

Stats - 18/02/2014
The graph was grabbed about 15:30.

What would be a likely source of the CRC errors climbing over time? Could it be related to the cheap surge-protected power strip that the router is currently plugged into? Unfortunately I can't just plug into the wall as I need to run a couple of other items from the socket. I'll try to find a higher quality board (or one without surge protection) if people think it'll help.

I'm also planning on getting a UPS. What sorts of units are other people running, and do they make a difference in day-to-day use (e.g. error rates)? Can anyone recommend something that would run the Fritz (<30W) and a future NAS unit (~30W idle, ~50W full load)?

did your speeds change? DLM profile change?

it looks like that is what has happened.

Nope, still DLM-1 with bitswap. I've never seen any sign of DLM doing anything.

The one resync that's showing was when I pulled the DSL cable yesterday.

Update: Just VPN'd in to check the speeds. Downstream is 35432 current, 35560 attainable. Upstream is 10352 current, 13560 attainable. The only thing that's changed is that my upstream attainable has dropped ever so slightly, not that it makes any difference.

AH im miss reading everywhere here today!

assumed DLM resynced you.

it would seem you have had a slight profile change, maybe DLM is trying something..

on the upside, at 112, thats a rate of 2.0167 CRCPM, which will still keep DLM-1, but not exactly where you want to be sitting.

i would expect, upon another resync you will go back to normal, DLM has a habit of messing with things every so often.

i would have expected it to coincide with an increase in sync speeds though.

I honestly don't think DLM is working at all. Perhaps there's something a bit off with my cabinet, or the card I'm on.

I've been on VDSL 10 days now, and have not had a single DLM resync. The only resyncs I've had are the ones I've caused. Aside from the initial speed issue yesterday, the connection has been consistently on DLM-1 with 35.5M up and 10M down.

My DLM period would have been reset with the work yesterday, so I'll keep an eye out for the next 10 days to see if there are any changes. I'll post back if I see any changes, or if the numbers don't change within a few days.

DLM is has you already on DLM-1, there isnt much moves DLM can make.

the original documentation talked of power and SNR changes too, but i have personally not seen this in action (feel free to correct me Brent)

what is typically seen, is profile moves from DLM profiles to others. as lines generally start on DLM-1 (as yours did) its not likely to change if your line doesnt 'require' a change.

you have said it yourself though, it has only been 10 days, your still very early stages.

Exactly. If you really want to find out you could try rebooting the Fritz 4 or 5 times. That should get you kicked down to DLM-2 within a couple of days. I don't recommend it though.
