During the power outage CRC errors were nil, though admittedly I didn't sit around longer than 20 minutes waiting for some.

SNRM dropped to 0 quickly once power was restored, but it hung onto the sync until just before 5am (not the usual DLM demotion time) and then resynced at the normal rate.

With functional mains power, it's around 0.15CRCPM on DLM-4.  We seem to alternate between DLM-4 and DLM-2 on a fairly regular basis.  DLM-2's CRC rate is quite a bit higher, starting around 3CRCPM, rising to 20CRCPM or so over a few days.  No resyncs normally other than the 04:11 DLM-initiated syncs.

I thought it was kind of neat to see what the line could do with minimal interference from other lines and electric fences (rural area).  430m line length, give or take.  200m underground along the road, and then another 230m underground along our boundary line and under the house.

Though, I think I'll take having mains power over the improved sync any day :)

Woah, I can only imagine a 17a line syncing within a power outage...

Well .... That's tight. But possible indeed for 17a IIRC.

Hi everyone

I hope this is ok to post here but I just had Telecom VDSL installed last Friday and am pretty happy with it. I've read over the DLM profiles but still have no idea what my profile is.

Here's a speed test I've just completed:

compared with one from Monday:

It appears as though my DLM profile has been moved, yes?

Here's my line stats (Telecom-provided Huawei HG630b router):

I'm unsure of how far the nearest exchange is but there's a cabinet approx 100m down the road. I'm quite pleased with the connection so far especially considering the guy from Chorus connected VDSL via an older, unused phone line instead of a new installation (it would have probably otherwise required underground cabling due to the set up of the house).

for 15.9dB 36mbit is pretty good!

your defiantly not 100M in cable length..

Thanks for that!

Hahaha you're probably right. I do know it's down the road but realistically, it's probably a lot further lol

likely your loop goes up the road then swings back.

TimA is a great example of this.

his cabinet is directly outside his house (like along his fence line).

his cable travels down the road, through two feeder cabinets before feeding back up, adding a fair distance to it

Just got VDSL connected today. Everything seems OK for someone that isn't next to the exchange...

But let me guess... 50 Non-remediable errors/min is not good.

What do the VDSL-Gurus reckon?

Those line stats look pretty good. I'd guess you're about 350-400m from the cabinet. It looks like you've gone straight to DLM-1, so those speeds should be fairly close to what you'll get long-term.

Your error rate is a bit concerning. It might cause you to drop to a lower DLM level, which will affect your speed and/or latency.

What are you using as a power source? Are you plugged directly into a wall outlet, or are you using a multi-board? If it's a power board, is it an expensive one or a cheap one? I ask because I've found that your power source can have an effect on your error rate. I was plugged into a surge-protected multi-board that was bought from The Warehouse, and got quite a few errors per second. I switched to a fairly inexpensive UPS and the error rate dropped below 0.1 errors per second. Using a UPS is also great for power outages, because you can keep using your laptops and mobile devices as if nothing was wrong.
