As of today, I've ascended to the world of fibre optics.

This isn't a message to gloat about it. But a special shout out to this thread of invaluable information and the people that have contributed to it.

I'll miss waking up each morning to my Fritz!Box line stats email and checking the quality/speed of my connection for the 24 hours prior, seeing if I've lost/gained any sync speeds.

But for now gents, I bid you adieu, and wish you all the best with pushing DSL to the limit.

I hope to see this thread necroed in the decades to come for people to see the struggles, virtues and victories we had on our copper lines.

*salute*

Farewell DumKorpf, we wish you well in your new home in the realm of light.

Spare the occasional thought for those of us still in the dark ages, struggling in our constant fight for bandwidth and line stability, and remember your roots amongst the rest of us mere mortals.  We will continue to press on, waiting on the Lords of light to grant us favour in our quest for ascension :)

We are glad to have assisted you in your journey, however small that contribution may have been, and we are appreciative of your past contributions to our collective struggle :)

Cheers.

you were 43/10 on 17a before? (just seems a little low for 17a thats all.)

Thats quite a gain in terms of effect from crosstalk!

also uptime counter there, very nice.

yea i was on 17a within 1 day of getting this VDSL setup initally even when i was having dozens of powercuts over that time

my VDSL speed has been dropping steadly last few years, 3 years ago was nearly 60mbit down 10 up, so its nice to be back to better than i was. Crosstalk sucks.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

i have no idea why mine is so low as my SNR and attenuation is the same as it was when i was on 56/10 when the snr was 9 i was on 65/10.

those 9dB profiles... they seem to bugger your power level in my experience....

Same experience here. Used to be 60+ and now down to 48 Mbit/s down. I hope 998 rolls out here soon because we're not scheduled for fibre until after July 2017. In the middle of Auckland. >:(

Based on many years of work with xDSL 'modems', I have a theory that the comms circuitry in any device gradually degrades over time.  It seems to happen to all of them, regardless of initial quality.

I'll test that theory. I've got a FritzBox 7490 that 2Degrees sent me for free (well for signing for 12 months when I switched over to the unlimited plan), I just haven't got around to setting it up yet.

Same model as your current one & same firmware level?

Sounds like an interesting experiment if so!

Remember the Dynalink RTA1320? Those things were the rage. Then they'd start screaming after a while eventually crapping out. I have a box of dud ones.
