juha: Ahem ahem... civility, please...

I read the post wrong, and thought he said something TOTALLY dumb. I went back and deleted my message. Sigh, I've had a long day of meetings with Telecom/Gen-i about OneOffice at various clients...

Playing nice so we can get OneOffice installed, and the client will have their problems solved... But it really reminds me of

Actually, the story ends no where near there... Kiwi Share... LLU... Government intevention in monopoly using it's advantages in other markets...

next time is banned? Thats a bit harsh, but good to know as I just got the invite for the geekzone blog and was going to start blogging. if it is so easy to be barred, and probably lose acces to blog/content/following it safe to say I would look to a self hosted or paid blogging site as being a human one does make mistakes (corrected and apoligised for) - but geekzone I assume is a dictatorshop, and you are it's king? (I assume you are the owner, if I was not so lazy I'd do a whois, but it's late and I'm tired.)

Interesting enough, everyone seems to be tired of the Telecom/Xtra network underperformance & ownership issues. What are people interested in talking about.

I would like to know more technical details on the inside of Telecom's network config, I have scooped a lot out of PROBE & Telecom specs, etc but there is still a lot of unknowns.

Regarding the banning option, have you read this yet? http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?ForumId=4&TopicId=10305

Have you read this other one? http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?ForumId=39&TopicId=10286&page_no=4#52518

It's not "easy to be banned". Trolling, personal attacks attract banning. Your previous post (removed by yourself, but still visible to moderators) had a personal attack. The three or four replies after that showed who people replied negatively to this.

Personal attacks are not allowed. Is this hard to understand?

Now, if you want to discuss the topics you pointed out, its all good. But not personal attacks. And no hijacking threads.

I am the owner, just ask. As for being a dictatorship, not it's not. But it's a private property and there are rules to follow. Like any other decent place we have rules, and we enforce them. That's why we have moderators.

If you don't like rules, go to usenet and post in newsgroups. There are no rules there.

Why is that people that don't like the rules, and break the rules always come blaming the moderator and site owner? This is really getting tired and old.

Simple reason is, when people signed up for service, or group, or any association, most people do not read the rules, conditions and terms etc. and they just sign their waiver and agreed to the constitution of the association.

so in fact, if one has done so this way, it is their own stupidity and foolishness for not taking great care of themselves to ensure they understand and fully comply to the guidelines that to be followed.

in short, they have only themselves to blame for any foolishness acts.

bradstewart:

I'm wondering if I could get any more bored by this.

If you are on a conklin DSLAM then 2Mbps is the fastest your line can deliver... Exactly as promised by Telecom. Your line has been unleashed. Just be grateful that you aren't one of those who can no longer receive broadband.

I have to disagree with you on this Brad with the same rational I used in my post earlier. The speed is advertised as the maximum speed which your line will train at. Yes they don't say that you will always achieve this due to network conditions, however 2mbps backhaul from your DSLAM is not a condition, its a cold hard fact. You will *never* get more than 2mbps thus you could never achieve this peak speed

Your peak obtainable speed is 2mbps, full stop, period, 0.0 recurring % chance of getting more than this, however you wish to word it. Thus advertising your peak speed as 'fast as your line can go' is wrong because there is zero change of this being possible if your line connects at over 2mbps.

Telecom could bump their contention ratios a million to one on their ATM backhaul network and they would still be technically correct in their advertising, but as soon as they limit the maximum speed to less then 7.6mbps on any part of their from DSLAM to LAC then this advertising becomes false.

Once the potential for you achieving the speed your line is capable of (meaning the speed you can connect to your DLSLAM at, and be quite clear on this) is 0 % then the statement is false, for any other value it is true. Telecom are not obliged to provide any particular speed or have promised this as Coke points out but they are obliged that the 'speed your line is capable of' have a non zero chance of reaching this speed. I could careless if the chance is 0.0000000000000000000000000000001% and you had to commit mass murder to ensure every other Telecom user was dead so you had sole usage of the network.

To quote Xtra's own material on this:

"The stated speed of your plan is the maximum possible connection speed
at which you can access the Internet. Put another way it's the maximum
possible connection speed between your modem and your local phone
exchange."

The maximum possible speed you can access the Internet...Not the maximum possible speed you can access your DSLAM :)

Now this looks bad. I agree with Fraktul on this one. Telecom sells "the maximum from your modem to the local exchange". But this is a useless measurement by any means because it seams that in some case this speed is limited from the exchange onward. Not good...

The conklin is not the exchange, so the xtra blurb is still correct, its just that your line back to the exchange has 2 parts, the 7.6 meg part, and the 2 meg part. Seems quite simple to me that there is more to it then the sync speed back to the cabinet in the street

So then... "the maximum possible connection speed between your modem and your local phone exchange" could NEVER be 7.6Mbps then could it, because part of that link runs at only 2Mbps Frown.

Therefore, how can "the xtra blurb still be correct"?

QED I think.

Do you consider the conklin to be an exchange (or part of) ?

Because as you know xtra never promised 7.6Mbps... Have you got that yet? They promised the maximum your line can deliver. Which with a conklin is 2Mbps... So the blurb is true. Those people are getting their maximum.

QED!
