It's just a service. 

The difference is that in the domain space we seem to be able to have a database that lets providers find out who's currently doing what so that stuff can just get sorted out.

If we had the same sort of publicly visible database for data services then the problems being talked about in this thread could be sorted out so much faster.

But my question was if domain data can be public, why can't connection data?

Seeing as this thread is going down hill I will pipe up again, this situation can be resolved very very simply by just asking for a new connection and booking it for the day you want to move in. Does not require any special tricks from the ISP and charges will be amended when Chorus find it is actually an intact connection.

Wouldn't chorus install the new connection on the second unused pair, as the new owner has no authority to do a MAC on the intact pair?

While this might be the rule it just doesn't happen like that. When I was doing it we would still use a second pair up to the ETP and then just connect the internal wiring to that. Was the low stress way for people to get a line on when their ISP couldn't get it together.

Reads more and more like an employment loop hole that's just being exploited to me.

I was reading a really interesting thread on Whirlpool earlier in the year about all the rots that they use to keep driving lots of work on the CAN there.

Just thought I would update you all on how this worked out. Once I feedback back the idea of a new connection for the day after the disconnection Snap sorted it out. The line was connected late afternoon on the 8th and all going. Chorus guy said he would update the paper work so it was just a standard connection.

Took a bit of pushing to get Snap to do this but I do have to say every interaction I have had with Snap thus far has been awesome. I am really pleased I changed ISPs.
