How much does that cost you per month.

Petrol - $200
Bread - $20
Milk - $25
Cheese - $5-10 (don't eat a lot of cheese tbh)
Water - $10-20 (depends if the wife wants spring water otherwise tap water)

Costs per month. North Shore.

Not sure how this is in relation to this thread though..

Nor do I but it was fun....the basis to establish cost, in my view, should relate to the cost of providing the service in a competitive environment.

The problem is it is not truly a competitive environment and each side is going to present their best side of any argument. I think the cost is reasonable with room for declines over time.

I agree. However if you look back the cost for data in NZ say 2-4 years ago it was way to much. Now you see ISP's offering 30GB data pack add on for $15 or so. So I think we are starting to move forward as a country but in snail speed. As UFB etc comes out and stays for a few years the price of ADSL will eventual go down I imagine and then they will completely fade that out like in other countries where they just run on fibre.

I doubt I will be alive to see that though haha.

Sadly that's the sort of country or world we live in. Someone sets the price and you can do 1 of three things.

1. Pay for that service and use it
2. Try to find a cheaper alternative
3. Go with out it

Hardly there is a chance where the people will change prices because people complain about it because it would mean they are not making as much money as they can. Sort of becomes a numbers game then. if 80% can pay the price why lower it for the other 20%

Sorry about the rant just my view :)

We english have a 4th way, complain about it enough until they do something about it.

If the organisations were consumer focused they probably wouldnt price their services at the high end of the households monthly spend. But then again, we'd probably have a symmetric connection, higher data rates and no caps and probably have free national traffic by now, there would be national wifi networks and mobile data would be priced the same as cable data.

I rather like my $80/unlimited internet. There's not even a fair use policy.
