sloburn: Yes testing on ethernet.  No one has asked about my synch rates, how do I check those?

you will need to login to your router, and check your DSL rates in there.

That latency points to congestion.

Are you 100% certain you have no devices or apps such as torrents on your network that are uploading data right now?

have you checked your network to be sure nobody is freeloading, possibly sitting on your wifi sucking away at your line?

you are syncing at 40/10 which is solid.

i do note, your connection has only been connected for 6 hours.

have you rebooted your router recently?

Not uploading at any significant speed.  I do run utorrent sometimes but i've been doing that for longer than i've had vdsl and i've only started having download issues in the last 10 days.

Restarted the router this afternoon as I had to unplug it.

Have tried the speed test with wlan completely disabled and I get the same result.

Just to update on this (sorry if this is thread-jacking) but I thumped a different desk yesterday (telecom twitter, signed up for twitter, I feel dirty) and they suggested perhaps it was a modem issue and are sending me a new model.  I suggested that it seemed highly unlikely the modem would just work poorly at the same specific times of the day but any progress is progress.

Anyhow, got home yesterday and miraculously my issues were resolved.  Obviously whatever wasn't wrong became less wrong with a wave of someone's magic wand.  Wonder if they'll ever tell me what they did to fix it.  Back to solid 15ms ping and 38Mbps down

Found the reason mine had dropped....  tree branch had rubbed against the line during the strong winds lately, and exposed the cabling to the elements. Chorus came out and replaced it, back to 40/10 :)
