Hamilton is a UFF area for UFB, not a Chorus one. :)

im just curious why you released this site with so many errors and still a tonne of data to add to it.

it just gives the uninitiated the wrong impression, and they would have no ideas about the errors or issues

my views exactly, the idea of a map that shows everything in one location is great!

but in its current state, theres no way ild advice anyone to use the site, infact i would suggest against it right now!

Why does the map on first connection only show half the country ?

When I connect you only see north of hamilton to timaru.

lol yes, this is a mess and is no where near ready for release. Given that the whole point of the site is to accurately report at a street address level what services are available why on earth do you decide to go ahead and launch it without RBI coverage for example when you know RBI coverage is coming. By the sounds of the Chorus data is well out of whack aswell

Most problems are the result of previous solutions...

Isn't the current chrous map on the chorus website more accurate than this POS map they have released? I have found the chorus one quite useful in the past, but this one doesn't even show that I am in a fibre area(installed in the area a few months ago), yet the chrous one does..

Yep, the Chorus map is still the best (it's even better than the private map Chorus provides to ISPs in some situations, eg if you want to know the expected dates fibre will be ready).

I am actually happy with this map.
We got a call today from a woman who is building a house on a lifestyle block. DSL stops 100m from her driveway - they made the mistake of buying the paddock connected to a PCM cabinet in the other direction, without checking for broadband availability.

Anyhow she was in a panic for the last few days regretting her decision but saw the story in the nz herald - she checked the address on the new map and found we have coverage.

Had she not known, they would have built the house, put in a copper telephone line and been stuck without broadband until she found out about our rural network via the bush telegraph.

A couple of phone calls with the electrician over the following hour, she has chosen a 15mbit service and the electrician is installing a full structured cabling system and home hub during the pre-wire stage of the house build so they can make the best use of it.

When we were asked to submit data, we were told the primary goal was to show that there are different types of broadband delivery, and to educate the uninformed. It did its job perfectly in this case.

As someone who didnt even know broadband could come by any other means than a telephone line, she was able to use the map, find out she still had options and was able to find a solution so the pre-wiring could be done before the gib went up.

Some answers:

We spent a year trying to get data out of some people and it was only when they knew we were definitely launching and the minister would launch it that they offered up their data. Sometimes that's what it takes and we have to roll with the consequences.
We can only work with the data given and unfortunately that is not always as up to date as we would like it.
For Chorus Fibre we do have more up to date data but its not a simple drop in for the current data and we need to develop a whole new backend system to incorporate it - didn't have a chance to get that done in time for the launch, but it won't be long.

Basically, before the site was live there wasn't the impetus for providers to keep the data up to date, after all from their perspective they had gone to all the trouble to give us the data and there was nothing to show for it. Now that it's live that impetus is there and we expect the data quality to improve rapidly. As an example, the day after the launch three missing wireless providers contacted us and that wouldn't have happened if we hadn't gone live.

We've made some updates over the last couple of weeks that you might find useful:

Cable networks are now included thanks to Vodafone.
We've had a major update to the VDSL data, thanks to Chorus.
We're now showing much better dates for Chorus UFB rollout using the better data.

And we've got a twitter account which you can follow for updates: @BroadbandMapNZ
