chevrolux:

@raytaylor - Yea it does have a foil wrap that is used for location so when installers joint the microduct they keep it going with some aluminium gause tape.

Oh well thats okay then. I keep a DSE Funway 2 metal detector in the garage.
Everyone should have one.

chevrolux: ... For a two billion dollar network ....

I suspect the real costs of the UFB project are substantially higher than $2B.

- Disruption to traffic.
- Damage to road/footpaths (followed by shoddy 'repairs').
- Individual in-house cost (I've spent a few hundred).
- Individual productive time lost (I've used several hours).

It would be interesting for someone to estimate the national cost of all this.

So just an update.

Got a follow up call from Chorus this morning to arrange an on-site visit to take a look. Confirmed the depth at 80mm and given some advice on exposing the lead-in while work was being done on the lawn. Also got confirmation that it should have been laid at the documented depth. Will be laying my conduit at 300mm from the sidewalk to the FTB over the Christmas break. Chorus will be coming back once the work is done to redo the lead-in.

Thanks @chorusnz for getting in touch. All in all a great result and as I said to the Chorus reps; would never have been an issue if we weren't going to be laying irrigation and leveling the lawn. Good on them for taking ownership and providing a positive outcome.
