It sounds like you got off lightly. The impression I get here is that more fibre installs turn into major screw-ups than not. I don't understand why it is so hard for them to get it right the first time. Anyway, congratulations on your new high speed connection.

Here we will never get fibre, but until a month ago our 4G RBI was pretty good. I installed a second antenna and we were getting solid 50 mbps down all the time. Then at the very beginning of 2016 the bottom suddenly feel out and were back to 3G speeds, then dial-up speeds. I finally contacted our ISP and was told we had somehow been transferred to a more distant mast, hence the poorer speeds. He is trying to get it sorted but in the meantime we seem to be stuck at about 15 mbps.

The ONT mounted in my network cabinet with the RGW below it. Red light means no fibre signal.

So that's it for now. Once everything is working and the evil ADSL router is gone, I plan to tidy up the rat's nest of wires in here.

i have it on good terms that only a couple of years ago there was one single cabinet that Chorus were supposed to be allowed to install their ONT into.  Interesting that they've installed into a wooden space like that with what looks like no ventilation?

Maybe we only hear about the problem ones on here. Enable reckon they are doing 100 installs a day and Chorus must be doing a lot more than that. We definitely don't see that scale of complaints here.

Thanks, Rikkitic. Hope you get your speeds back to where they were again. smile

The Chorus guy didn't say anything about where I wanted the ONT mounted. There's a 5+ mm gap all the way around the door for air flow. If heat build up becomes an issue (ONT, HomeHub, two network switches and four wall warts) I'll look at putting a small fan in there to circulate the air.

5mm gap is probably enough.  If anything just install a flush ventilation grill

This is what the full cabinet looks like (internal gadgets have changed a bit now):

This is the door. I can't put a ventilation grille in it, but I could vent it through to the cupboard behind it:

Love it.  I think there's enough empty space in there for the temperature to self regulate. Is that shelf in the wall to the right the old space for the phone?

Thanks. I made the cabinet to fit in the space that was available there and later found the mirror for 30 bucks in a second hand shop. It was perfect to hide the cabinet away. You wouldn't even know it was there.

I've noticed already that the Huawai HomeHub gets very warm. I'll keep an eye on it in there.

Yes, that shelf to the right is one of those old-fashioned hall phone alcoves that houses used to have. The shelf was cracked so I decided to rip it out and cut out some bricks to make a quirky little place for our cordless phone. laughing

Oh, I forgot to mention that my install guy said that someone else from Chorus will be coming around about a week after my install to audit the installer's work. This is apparently done as a matter of course.

Anyone else had an install audit?

Interesting. I wasn't told anything like that.

Yeah, I haven't heard it mentioned on the boards here before. Maybe it's something new they're doing?

I'll wait and see if someone contacts me about this.

My install guy said that Downer (the local Downer office in PN anyway) has a full time person allocated to this job.

That's probably just a standard QA check being run - not all jobs get them, only some of them, and some of them can be as quick as a call from Chorus or as involved as a Service Company Team Leader/Field Manager or one of the direct Chorus employees (I believe that one of the Service Delivery Managers has been known to do them around here). Just another way to keep everything honest, as far as I know.

That's a new one, I never had that either (and my install was last April, by Visionstream).
