Yep exactly, and sure there are arguable reasons for it.

When you dig into the white papers there are points on power levels between 8b and 17a where depending on the coinflip you could be better off with more spectrum or more power..

Many of us techys are more into it for the upstream boost, and that's one of the biggest factors 17a vs 8b brings in given 998..

on the note of ADSL, i'm pretty closely following this one too, seeing some impressive results there too - Granted you can't squeeze much more out of it, but chorus are managing it quite nicely.

what dslam/cabinet are you off?

Not listed in the areas, Just for extra peace of mind checked a few lines off OWN/AP and OWN/AM definitely new DLM profiles upgrades.

Historically DLM could not manage the spectrum change between 8b/17a (and back again). So This selection was based on loop (electrical) length only.
Also - don't forget 8b has higher power.

The new dd-DLM is able to manage the spectrum switch.

DLM hasn't been holding everyone back, a DLM upgrade has allowed us to change the way we do things in this space.

I wouldn't go that far! :) I'm not actually on this latest DLM project, the team has been doing a great job.

Is there a simple way to detect if your line has been updated to DLM?

Generally known online as OpenMedia, now working for Red Hat APAC as a Technology Evangelist and Portfolio Architect. Still playing with MythTV and digital media on the side.

was bought up in a topic here about DLM, where i mentioned chorus had put comment out about doing this but nothing since.

Good to see.

So far in my noticed areas, i haven't seen vectoring on any trial lines think i have only really looked at IKANOS lines though.
