OP, write an email to ruralbroadband@chorus.co.nz and tell them you want NGA on application and they'll be able to tell you yes/no.

In short you are too far for VDSL. Go back to ADSL2+

 

I have had VDSL up to ~800m in Frankton, Hamilton. Apparently the cables there are above average size and it worked OK. Everything I have heard is VDSL is pretty crap over 1km.

OK, an update.

 

This morning at around 5:20 - 5:30 our internet went down again.  The first time since the earlier problem was fixed on 20 April.  

 

Vodafone support said they could see our modem and that we had a "good, strong connection".

 

Turned out it only required a modem re-boot to fix (yes, I should have done that before phoning them of course!)

But the cynical in me thought "good, strong connection" yeah, if only.  So I decided to run a speed test.

 

Big surprise:

 

Best result in the first two weeks after being reconnected:  21.07 DOWN, 0.84 UP (1 May). 

 

Today after rebooting modem:  26.27 DOWN, 2.42 UP(25 May).  

 

 

 

Line stats now (25 May 2017) as below; ie. certainly not great VDSL but a massive improvement on anything we have had before and better than anything ADSL2+ will do for us.

 

 

 

 

Corresponding Line stats at 2 May (which probably applied up till last night as had not noticed any improvement)

 

 

 

 

Sooo

 

1. Damn glad we did not take advice from various people (including a couple of Chorus technicians) to drop back to ADSL2+

 

2. Something happened overnight to dramatically improve our VDSL connection (probably explains the modem hiccup).

 

3. Has there been a major VDSL system upgrade?  

 

 

 

Our new line stats look very good for ~1.5km from the cabinet.

Chorus gave you good advice which you chose to ignore. So you have a marginal VDSL connection... great, I suppose. What's your point?

 

At 1.5km it may work for you or you may ultimately have to switch to ADSL for stability. There is nothing Chorus or this forum will do to change this.

6dB changes has hit you by the looks of it.

 

 

 

This part of ddDLM seems to have been turned on overnight for VDSL.
