Honestly, sign up for ADSL/VDSL once thats in and going contact your ISP and sign up for fibre. it may say 2 weeks but don't count on it.

Dont cancel the VDSL till the fibre is in and working, common mistake having A/VDSL turn off the day fibre is suppose to be installed and it not actually happening and then being left with out a connection.

How does VDSL keep working if fibre is pulled through the underground pipe replacing the copper?

Is there a very short down time while the ONT, etc is installed?

My first ever AM radio network connection was with a 1MHz AM crystal(OA91) radio receiver.

because thats not the only way to have it installed.

the outside crew normally comes in first then the indoor crew, which could be some time later. Sometime both do happen on the same day but not always

I thought it was a requirement that the copper is left intact where possible?

Can Chorus draw the fibre cable through the underground pipe (about 15m, installed 2001) while the copper remains in place?

If the pipe is usable (no blockages), then yes, possibly.
