So I've confirmed there are over a quarter of the apartments in my complex with fibre, including the one directly below us. I was over the understanding that the body corp was the one to give consent for the entire complex. Is this not the case? I don't understand how they could scope, and not have consent. The process was supposed to be made easier for people in MDU's I thought.

MDU's are not supposed to be easier, they still have a full design and consent process because it's considered invasive no matter what. They wouldn't take any benefit from recent legislation change.

The answer to your question though is yes, once an MDU has consent, that should be it. You request an installation and it should be simple particularly when, as you say, other apartments in the complex have it.

Sounds like Chorus is being Chorus and not being on the right page. Classic as.

Bigpipe just emailed me and has now changed their story to state "There's no pathway to your building yet, and Chorus needs to do that"

I guess the neighbors below us magically have fibre then, since there would be no pathway to our building suddenly (first floor is a garage, second is their apartment, third is ours). The chorus tech that came out even confirmed the fibre was to the building already when he was here.

I'm ready to just throw my hands up and forget this entire thing. The story keeps changing, and the blame keeps getting tossed around. I guess the next excuse will be that fibre is no longer being installed anywhere as it's a failed project or something.

Just because there's fibre to your building, it doesn't mean Chorus has allocated enough strands for every apartment in the building to get fibre. I don't really understand why they wouldn't do it right the first time, but that's what happens sometimes.

If that's the case, it should have come up during the "scoping" visit, when I was told everything was in place, and it would be installed in two weeks. Someone someplace is lying to me, and I really don't appreciate it. The tech that came out stated he found the fibre cabinet, and the lines are all there. I see no reason he would have to lie about that. When I pinged Chorus on the issue on the supposed day it was supposed to be installed, they said it was a consent issue, not a lack of fibre issue. They told Bigpipe about it two days before. Again, I see no reason they would lie about it.

BigPipe however, has verifiably lied to me at least twice during this process, as well as with another ticket that they stated they were sending to networking, then suddenly closed the next day without sending it anywhere. When I ask the status from them on the day it's supposed to be installed and I hadn't heard from a tech, they said they looked into it and everything was fine, the tech would call me a half hour before he was going to be here. I've wasted enough time with them.

Everyone praises fibre and how great it is, but this is causing me more stress than it's worth. There are tons of horror stories about this entire process. I purposely waited a few years after it was available to have this crap ironed out. Companies want to treat their customers like crap, and lie to them so be it. So tomorrow I'll cancel it, and switch ISPs to someone who actually responds to tickets, and doesn't lie to their customers (hopefully). This entire thing has turned into a steaming pile of crap that I really don't want to deal with anymore.

@Taubin you are making this out to be way bigger than it is or needs to be, no one is out to get you and no one is sitting there saying lets lie to Taubin so they cant get fibre.

someone somewhere has made a mistake, it happens, sadly to often when it comes to fibre but it is what it is.

i take it you have a working internet connection?

stopy worrying about it so much and just let it happen when i happens. as it will happen. so stop stressing there really is no need.

I have a half working internet connection, I've made a few posts here about my issues. I have opened a few tickets with BigPipe over it, and it's never gotten resolved. I have had them close the ticket with no resolution, after saying it was going to another team. I've had them not respond to the ticket for over 3 weeks, even after asking for updates. I understand mistakes happen, but they've had a few too many mistakes for it to "just happen" I'm quite over their lack of service (as are quite a few other people if you look at their facebook page). To have them tell me when I ask them specifically about the install on the day it was supposed to happen, and have them reply "We looked into it and everything is fine, the tech will call you a half hour before they come out" is not a "mistake" it's a lie. You don't mistakenly not look into an issue, then tell the person you have and there's no problem. That's not how mistakes work.

I wouldn't have a problem as much, as I understand things happen, but this is way too much "mistake" for me. The issues I've had with BigPipe and whatever has happened with their services, and more importantly, customer service is beyond what I'm willing to put up with. The fibre issues are just the icing on the cake. If it means I don't get fibre for another year because I switched ISPs in the middle, so be it. If it means I never get fibre so be it, I'm over it, and their "mistakes".

Welcome to my world. Sounds like you have a similar problem to me

Also a shared driveway with a body corp. Some people already have fibre here. The conduit is blocked and they can't seem to clear it, so now they need to rip up a dozen or so bricks to run the cable. You would think it was like asking the bodycorp if I could marry their daughter the way they behave.

Anyway, Chorus are again scheduled to come on the 8th to try and do the install and I fully expect nothing to happen (like the last three or four times). As far as I know the BC never even consented to the work on the driveway so not sure what they are coming for...

Apparently Chorus is telling BigPipe (from what I've been told) still that there is no fibre run to our building. I have confirmed with my neighbors below me, that they have fibre installed. They even showed me the ONT. BigPipe (again apparently I can't prove any of this) told Chorus that they have verfied multiple people in my complex, and my building have fibre. Chorus again came back at them stating there is no fibre run to anyone in my building. They apparently wont give bigpipe a time that they'll come out and physically confirm this either. I've simply given up at this point. I'm no longer even angry, I'm just over it.

Maybe get some serial numbers of the ONT from your neighbours and send them to bigpipe and get them to ask Chorus what address they belong to?

They show up as already having fibre on Chorus' fibre availability map, so Chorus definitely knows they are there (at least in some capacity).

Chorus will sometimes do this really stupid thing where they'll complete an install of fibre to some apartments in the building, yet they will still mark the building as "consent required". Which means when additional apartments sign up for fibre they'll do the consents process all over again.

That may be the issue here, no one has been able to give me a clear answer. BigPipe had stated they were escalating with Chorus and I would hear back "by the end of the week" (this was on Monday), so I'm hoping I hear from them with some sort of update today. Though Chorus seems to state there's no fibre here at all, not just lack of consent.

Latest update I've received from Bigpipe last night:

Hi Dustin,

We have asked Chorus today, again, to provide us with details on why they haven't installed your fibre yet. We will keep you updated. We're sorry for the inconvenience.

So it sounds like Chorus isn't responding to Bigpipe either. Chorus seems as bad as NZ post at this point, which is saying a lot.

These chorus workers. They seem totally unsuited for the job. A friend of mine had to run the cables for one of them as he couldn't even do that. The three I have had turn up just look out of their depth.

Who keeps hiring them?
