I'm putting the address in the chorus maps multiple times a day to see when I can order. Will move the DSL back out to the shed so they will hopefully put the fiber in there so I can renovate the house and not worry about it.

Cool! Have you got a trench or conduit prepared for them to use?

I think they still average higher than us, but not for much longer I suspect. NZ should be racing up the charts. The govt did an excellent job with the fibre rollout credit needs to be given.

(in saying that I've been waiting 5 months to get mine installed....grumble)

Here are some numbers to make you feel even better.

http://www.speedtest.net/global-index

Maybe someone has an opinion on the accuracy(worth) of these numbers but they sure show NZ in a much better light than AU.

Kinda interesting. One thing they may not have considered though, is where people pay for speed many people don't need or want to pay for gigabit. I'm on fiber and could get gigabit, but I just don't need it. Maybe in 5 years? 100Mbps down and 20Mbps up is plenty for now. Maybe if I want to do huge online backups.

Or those given gigabit when they don't want/need gigabit(ie gigatown plan in Dunedin is the same price as entry level fibre for most ISP's).

But I see Australia 8th with avg down of 50.6 and NZ at 14th with 43.29?

That is "Mobile" on the left and "Fixed Broadband" on the right hand column.

I am surprised that NZ is so low on the Mobile side as I have typically found NZ mobile superior to AU mobile but meh.

It's the right-hand column you should be reading.

You may be onto something, with a decent speed 4G connection you can blow through 400MB+ on a speedtest..

Saw that at just after 5pm on the daily check of it, called voyager who needed to do something with chorus and said to call back in an hour and a half. Called back during curry (which @nate missed this time) and they said its a complex install :(

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff is all I can say. Im guessing its because they will have to come down the neighbours driveway like the copper does.

That's the mobile ranking - Which is fair enough. Fixed line has a separate ranking.

Could view it from the twitter link

Fourteen staff (count them) were photographed examining a hole on a street in Spotswood on Wednesday.

Asked what they were doing, one worker said: “We’re just scoping out whether it can be laid.”
