Not much help but just wanted to say I feel very sorry for the OP.

Gone above and beyond here to make the install simple for Chorus and has done something that will more than likely be far better & more resilient than a 'normal' install would have been, and then gets a massive kick in the guts with the pricing.

Guess Chorus have got to make money somewhere but it's a bit of a shame they can't offer some flexibility in a situation like this. frown

I guess because your property has already received its subsidy from the government for the UFB rollout, you're expected to pay the full cost for a new install.

I wont get involved in the OHUG cost - as that's not my area and others have looked at it.

But its worth pointing out that there is no such thing as a UFB install subsidy from the government.
Chorus is paying for the install of the communal UFB network and the home installation.
https://www.crowninfrastructure.govt.nz/ufb/who/ (select "read more" for Chorus)
"Chorus is not a Local Fibre Company; instead CIP invests directly in Chorus as the UFB network is deployed, in the form of non-voting equity and debt securities."

This article from 2012 has some detail of how it works...
http://www.stuff.co.nz/business/industries/6730198/Chorus-gets-first-govt-cash

They can call it what they want... but they are getting a truck load of government money to build a network - if that's not a subsidy, I don't know what is. And they are dam sure stretching that cash as far as it will go with sub-standard installs and charging like a wounded bull the second something is slightly outside scope.

I wonder how hard this is to do yourself? Cut the cable from your roof, run it down the post yourself and take it as far as it can go. If it's not long enough find some cable from somewhere else and then just pay cash to an underpaid Chorus contractor to splice them for you no questions asked....

I know Chorus usually want a contiguous cable to the ETP but its not worth it for these ridiculous prices.

That's probably the most annoying thing, the only specialist thing required to do this job is a splicer!
