IIRC, the 30/10 product was upgraded at no cost to 50/10 in all Chorus areas.
And maybe Enable followed suit? But UFF didn't, and UFF 'basic' customers are still on 30/10

Still a lot better than ADSL2 12/1

The fibre speeds are set by CFH as part of the UFB agreements. So Chorus (along with all other LFCs) *MUST* supply those speeds. Chorus was being nice upgrading 33/11 to 55/11 (Layer 2 speeds) but were under no obligation to do it, nor are any retail service providers obligated to provide the 55/11 in Chorus areas when the other LFCs have not.

The main point I had was in regards to Copper, and what Telecom and Chorus *haven't* done which is to artificially limit the copper speeds.

But the same could be said about why there are wholesale rates on NBN in Australia. NBN are contractually obliged to supply rates it's just that they are supplying it over Copper rather than Fibre.

Except over there they dont have to supply the whole lot of speeds to places. if you're unlucky enough to only be able to get the lowest tier that makes NZ speeds of 10 years ago look blazing fast in comparison, thats all you get to buy. Its a total mess of bodge ontop of neglected copper that they will then just not fix up because its working at the lowest speed just fine.

Your totally missing the fact that most of their handovers are congested too..
